. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 975, pretty girl , she's going to kick ass >_> the bakery door finally shut after being open an extra hour after the original closing time. the money from the day had been locked away into a safe and cassie had finally let everyone go home after feeling guilty for keeping them as long as she had. cassie was usually a fair boss, she was kind and just and personally, cassie did not know how to run a business. she was still trying to work out the kinks of being a boss, but so far, she was able to keep everyone happy and her bakery was thriving. smiling to herself, cassie shut a few of the lights off and looked around with a small admiration. the place was clean, but cassie forgot one important component when the last employee left. the door remained in the unlock position as she walked into the backroom to finish decorating the final cake before returning to her new home, with her new family. things in cassie’s life were going well, better than she expected even with her husband who she was falling for quite quickly and that little daughter of “theirs” had cassie wrapped around her finger. smiling, she grabbed the tube full of frosting and began to make the final touches, spinning the cake. nearly ten minutes later, the sound of the bell caught her attention that hung over the front door and she let out a small, ”hello..” [/b] but did not get a reply back. putting the tube down, cassie began to make her way toward the front, opening the swinging door and entering the front area as she spoke, ”sorry guys…we’re…”[/b] but her words were cut off at the sight before her. with eyes wide, three different pairs of eyes that were only visible through the ski masks on their face stared back at her. frozen for a moment as she eyed the bat in their hands, and the broken glass on the floor before she quickly turned around to run. pair of hands grabbed her around the arm but out of sheer panic, she whipped around with her other hand and scratched across his face, tearing a piece of the fabric of the mask. with tears in her eyes, cassie moved into the back room and began to listen to the destruction of her bakery as glass and wood were heard splitting and shattering. ”don’t do this please!”[/b] she pleaded through the barrier that was blocked by three metal tables, one of which held the cake. come on pretty girl. we won’t hurt the place just show us where the safe is.., but cassie quickly shook her head and backed away from the door. she heard the sound of more glass breaking due to the fact that she was resisting on giving the location of the safe where the money was kept. the money that she used to pay rent for the space, her employees, the supplies and everything that went into the operation of her bakery. her grandmother would have been so disappointed at this moment as she listened to the bakery store front being destroyed, ”STOPP!”[/b] she screamed out, hands rushing through her hair. shaky hands were reaching for her back pocket where her cell phone was located, unable to form the words as she tried to dial her husband’s number, finally listening to the ring tone occur, she heard his voice flow through the receiver but she was unable to form anything but a sob and cracked words, ”…bakery…destroying…help..please..”[/b] and then the phone slipped out of her hand as the back door was busted open. this could have been so much easier.. said the voice as cassie ran around the back area, throwing things in the male’s path to escape his clutches. pots, cakes, trays, utensils were thrown to the floor in an attempt to distract the robber from getting his hands on her as she tried to make it over the two tables that were once blocking the door but the male caught her foot and dragged her to the ground. straddling her waist and trying to keep the hysteric baker under control as she thrashed under him, he sent a slap to her cheek and she stopped moving. good girl..now where is your safe..? he asked with a fake sweetness to his voice while brushing the hair out of her face. ”in…the …”[/b] but the words were caught in her throat. she had only heard about these things happening in the movies, in tv shows and the hero always came to save the day. the weight that he had was sitting on her stomach, making it hard for her to move and her back ached from being tossed to the ground. the..office? back area? where!?” he shouted at her but cassie was almost frozen until she made the daring move to lift her knee up and catch him in a very sensitive area that had his body rolling off her. making a hasty recovery herself, cassie launched herself up and out to the store front, her shoes crunching the broken shards of glass. she could see the front door only steps ahead but she suddenly was grabbed from behind and thrown into the arms of another, you really shouldn’t have done that bakery girl.. said the voice and cassie flinched as his gloved hand stroked her cheek as she struggled in the hold of another robber. her eyes took in the sight of the bakery, destroyed and broken and she felt a sob escape her throat, all your fault sweetheart...you could have saved it if you had told…now where is that safe!?”, a hand reaching to wrap around her tresses and forcing their eyes to meet, his face moving closer to hers while his eyes burned into hers and cassie closed her eyes, a whimper escaping her lips. "better yet..come on sweetie..you can show us where it is.. said the unknown male's voice as she was forced to take a few steps due to the hold that they had on her arms. [/div][/center]

Nate had to admit that he was getting worried about Cassie. She said she'd be working late because she had a cake that she needed to finish up, but now it was starting to worry him. He contemplated heading over there to see if everything was all right, but with Sarah fast asleep in her crib, he didn't want to wind up waking her up only to realize that he'd been overreacting. He had to learn to take it a little easier where Cassie was concerned. He wasn't used to being a husband by a long shot so he had a hard time determining whether he was being irrational or if it really was his gut instinct kicking in.
A father and a husband in a few short months. Who would have thought a man like him would have it in him? And all before his brother managed it too... Not a whole hell of a lot sooner, but sooner nonetheless. Especially considering the fact that Nate had never really figured himself as a family man. He still didn't really figure himself to be a family man, at the heart of it. But he was trying. Damnit, he was trying. And it wasn't like there was some kind of an instruction manual that came with this shit, but by God, there damned well should have been.
His cell phone rang. He kept it attached to his hip at virtually all times. He didn't think there was much chance of him being called out on a surprise deployment as it would be. There was enough work to keep the deployed boys in action, but it wasn't like any major events had gone down recently. He suspected his brother was expecting orders for deployment just about any day now, but he should have still been in the clear. He picked up the phone on the second ring. "Xav-" But he was cut off by a panicked voice on the other end. It was Cassie.
Almost immediately adrenaline flooded his system, kicking him in to overdrive. Every inch of his SEAL training went into effect as the words rang through his head. Bakery. Destroying. Help. Please. His hand tightened on the cell phone in his hand and he stalked over to the neighbor's house, pounding on the door. Lucky for them, it wasn't too late in the evening. And beyond that, the woman that lived there with her husband was a stay at home Mom. The husband worked nights. "I need you to keep an eye on Sarah. She's sleeping. The baby monitor's on the kitchen counter. Bring it over here if you have to. I have something I need to take care of." Blunt and to the point, and he was pretty sure he was scaring the shit out of his neighbor with the look in his eyes. "Cassie's in trouble." He said by way of explanation. "Go. Go!" She said, practically shoving him back towards the door.
The entire time he'd been talking to the neighbor, he'd muted his end of the phone so nothing would come through from his mouthpiece. He'd been listening to the scuffle at the bakery while he prepped himself. He was trying to gather as much information about the situation as he could. There were at least two different voices he heard. And Cassie's panic. Not to mention, he'd heard the distinct sound of a hand hitting flesh. Some some of a bitch was going to hurt. Badly.
Nate stormed back into the house and into the room he kept all of his equipment locked up in. He shoved open the closet that he'd converted into a gun lock up and grabbed his Sig Sauer 220, holstering it at the small of his back. He also grabbed his go bag that he always kept loaded up with a lot of small little goodies that generally came in handy on a last-minute deployment. This was a last minute deployment. No man fucked with his woman. That was the end of it.
He slung everything into the bed of his pick up and headed towards the bakery. He stopped the truck about a block away, killing the lights. And then he grabbed his Ka-Bar from his go bag, tucking it into the top of his boot. A second he placed in between his teeth as he checked both the clip and the slide on his 9mm and got ready to get down to business.
They were at the front of the store. Nate had parked himself in the alleyway across from the bakery and was concealed in the shadows. Three of the sons of a bitches and one of them was manhandling his girl. Nate forced himself into the same state of calm that he managed whenever he was going into a DA situation. Direct Action. This was definitely Direct Action. And these guys were no pros. They were amateurs. And it was all in the way they held their guns. All in the way they thought they were invincible.
They weren't. And they were going to find that out the hard way.
Nate crept across the road. There was a garbage can out near the road. He kicked out with a booted foot and knocked it over. "What the hell was that?" There was a pause as if they were looking out the door for someone. "Go check it out." Perfect. Just what Nate had been looking for. The second the guy managed to make his way out the door, Nate reached out, wrapping an arm around his face and cutting off his oxygen supply as well as muffling his panicked cries... if he would have had the time to get one out. Nate hit the artery in the guy's neck with enough force to black him out. He gently lay him down on the ground. A hell of a lot more than he deserved.
A few moments passed. "What the hell is he doing?" There was another pause. "Go check on him. See if he pussied out on us." And tango number two approached. There was no ceremony with this one. He slammed the stock of his Sig into the back of the asshole's head as he passed him. The guy went down like a ton of bricks. "What the hell!?" Nate used the temporary distraction to advance in the doorway. He didn't hesitate. Didn't think twice. Cassie was close to the asshole, but not close enough that he couldn't take a shot. He was a damned good shot. "You see... the downside of bein' a dumbass in the good ol' US of A... is that you never know when you're gonna wind up takin' a Spec Ops soldier's woman in hand." He said bluntly. And before Nate knew what was happening, the asshole was reaching for a pistol tucked into his jacket pocket. Amateur.
Nate didn't hesitate. BANG. One shot right in the meaty part of his thigh. He dropped instantly, screaming in pain and let go of Cassie. "Baby, I want you to go into the back room and stay in there until I knock on the door and give you the date that we were married, alright? Call the police." He waited until Cassie was clear as he kicked the pistol well out of range of any of the goon's hands. BANG. "Whoops. Hand slipped on the trigger that time." He commented, planting another slug just left of the asshole's head. "You shot me you crazy son of a bitch!" Nate crouched down real low and close to him. "You're lucky that's all I did." He fisted a hand in his hair and got right in his face. "You ever even think to lay a hand on another woman like that again and so help me God, I'll know, Son. And I'll find you. And I'll finish the job. Remember my face and remember it damned well."
Nate gave him a little lovetap on the temple as well and knocked him out cold. He then proceeded to tie each of them up with quick ties that he kept on hand for such an occasion. Though, generally, they got used while he was on deployment... not in his own damned back yard. Once they were all secured, he headed to the back of the store and knocked on the door before giving her the date that they were married, only a short while ago. He nudged the door open after holstering his weapon again. "You okay, Baby?" He asked, concern flooding his tone and expression.

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1256, pretty girl , aww they are so cute <3 there was no adrenaline rushing through her system, she did not have the means to fight off the hands that were on her arms or the one that continued to touch her cheek or tuck the hair behind her ear. he kept cooing words to her but she hardly registered them with her eyes snapped shut as not to make eye contact. she had never thought that this would happen to her in her entire life and worst of all was that her store had taken the hit more so than she. she felt a tap to her cheek causing her eyes to open and take in the damage once more of turned over chairs, smashed tables, smashed display cases and the register having been thrown to the ground in an attempt to crack it open, not that anything was in there anyway. ”..why..” [/b] she whispered with her voice cracking all the same as she tried to hold back the sob but it was not enough to keep the tears from rolling down her cheeks. ”we heard this was the best place to get dough..”[/i] spoke the ringleader, attempting to make a joke that related the bakery’s business to the money in the safe hidden away from prying eyes. she shook her head, ducking it down to now stare at the floor, who knew that we would catch such a nice surprise…”[/i] he spoke while stroking away the tears but cassie actually jerked her head, hating the idea of being touched. touching lead to other things, his words were scaring her enough and she just prayed that her husband had gotten the message loud and clear and was on his way to her rescue. she winced as the grip on her arms grew tighter as the sound of a garbage can being kicked over was heard, metal hitting pavement. suddenly she was freed and took the time to take the few steps back to put herself with a little distance between the robbers and her own shaking frame. ”woah where are you going sweetheart? not trying to run are you..”[/i], she just shook her head as cassie was currently out of words as the fear was creeping too far into her throat and she was afraid of what was going to come out of her mouth. she was not a confrontational kind of girl and usually opted to be the passive one but this situation was different, and she was not sure how she was going to react now that it was just her and two of the robbers. the second was sent out, leaving her and the one that liked to touch her hair and she flinched back from the outstretched hand. ”don’t…touch me..”[/b] she all but whimpered out, not finding the claws that usually came out for a girl in this kind of situation. for a girl that was more go with the flow, she was certaintly trying to fight the current this time as he advanced closer and she was pressed against the wall, her head turning away from him. ”I can do whatever I want..” he commented, bringing the gun up to show cassie that he could in fact do what he wanted unless she wanted a hole in her body—not an accessory that she was hoping for. his body was pressed closer to hers, pushing his hips into hers and obviously indicating exactly what he wanted to do, or something revolving that, which caused cassie’s voice to be found and let out a plea in the form of a scream, until the gloved hand covered her mouth. then it all happened too fast as the front door was opened and her husband was standing there, ”nate..”[/b] she breathed out his name as the air rushed back into her lungs, but her throat burned from the forced down sobs and the scream that was rarely ever emitted from her throat. the gun in his hand was slightly shocking but she should have been expecting it, but the fact that it was pointed toward the male was not a good thing and she could see the temper, anger and worry on his face. reaching up to her face to brush away the tears, a small smile could be seen as she nodded to him and followed the directions. however, cassie was angry herself and the sight of her store caused her to kick the last robber in the back of his knees, ”sugarfooting asshole!”[/b] she half cursed out before wiping at her mouth and anything else that the male had touched as she exited the store front and into the backroom. it was a mess as well, but this was her own doing as she had tried to cut off his path to her and escape out the door—and had been so close too. she tried to recall the date that he would be reciting as it was not too long ago that they proclaimed their lives to one another but in her momentary shaken up sate, cassie was trying to remember her own name. her cell phone could be seen sitting in the middle of the destruction and it did not take her more than two steps before she was rushing for it, diving onto the floor and brushing the hair out of her face. she knew the address and everything that happened, and she recited it all to the operator who assured her that help was on the way. however, cassie was not sure she was able to be helped at the moment as she took in the sight of her ripped shirt, the pain in her cheek, and her raising heart. if nate hadn’t come, she could have been in so much worse pain, she covered her ears as the second gunshot went off which resulting in a small screech to come from her out of sheer surprise to the fact that nate would do that—but he was angry and it was for a good reason. her body was rocking as she tried not to imagine the what if’s and it was only when she heard the knocking on the back door and the date recited did she stand up and rush over to him. ”oh thank g-d..”[/b] she muttered into the skin of his neck, having been worried about him more so than herself, her arms wrapped around his neck as a sense of security. she felt his heart beating against hers, but hers was moving half a mile a second as she was trying to catch her breath, ”if you hadn’t…g-d nate..i can’t imagine…not having you in my life..”[/b] she mumbled once more, pulling back just to press a kiss to his lips. she needed a shower, a hug and some kind of comfort as her arms went back around the seal’s form and she nuzzled her face into his neck. it took a few minutes for her just standing like that against his body before she fully pulled back and wiped at her eyes which were red from the built up tears, ”…it’s bad..right?..”[/b], being vague about what she was referring to but she was talking about the bakery, not so much her appearance. ”..why would they do that...who would do that?..”[/b] she asked, musing to herself while her hands dove into her hair, brushing it out of her face while she sniffled, trying to come up with justification for the act that the three males had committed and for once, cassie was stumped. The moment he managed to open the door, she all but threw herself at him. Suddenly he was damned glad for the fact that he'd holstered his weapon again or she would have barreled right into him and either set the damned thing off or seriously bruised his sternum. But it seemed, at the moment, that she was more concerned about him than she was about anything else at the moment. And, really, it was a new feeling for him. He couldn't recall a time where he'd left on deployment and had had someone waiting there at home for him. He tried not to keep himself attached but now... Well, hell, now he was about as attached as a man could be. And he didn't regret it in that moment. Not in the least. The woman in his arms was incredible, caring, giving and loving. What man wouldn't want something like that to come home to?
Being cared for was a nice feeling. It was a damn nice feeling. And while he knew that his mother and brother had missed him when he'd been deployed, it just wasn't the same thing. Family was family. This...? Well, this was something entirely different. All he could do at the moment was snake his arms around her and hold her close. She was freaking out and she had every right to be freaking out at the moment. Nate knew that he hadn't been in any real danger per se with those guys. He was the faster, better and more trained shot. They wouldn't have had time to get a shot off before he managed to take them the hell out. But Cassie didn't know that. She'd never experienced anything like that.
"I did, Cassie." He said levelly. He couldn't have her thinking about the what ifs. If she did, she'd drive herself absolutely insane. And so, he gave her the best piece of advice he'd ever been given on his first deployment. "Don't think about it." He murmured gently, rubbing a hand up and down her back, making his best wild assumption at how to ease the emotions of a woman clearly in duress. He'd never really had to worry about this kind of thing and sincerely hoped that he wasn't screwing it all right the hell up. But then the other words she said kicked in... She couldn't imagine not having him in her life? And she was kissing him. Lord, was she kissing him.
She stood there in his arms for quite some time. It took him a moment to regain his bearing after reeling from her words. How had this whole situation progressed from something beyond a wedding arrangement in which he got to keep custody of his daughter into something that he honestly couldn't imagine living without now. And he really couldn't. Time would only tell whether or not Cassie could manage to handle all of this... to handle him. But in time, they'd see and they'd see where things went. If he had to deal with the fallout later, he would. He'd have to learn to. But for now, he was going to hold on for dear life. "I couldn't imagine life without you in it now either, Darlin'." He admitted, brushing a kiss across her temple.
After a long moment, she finally pulled back and looked at him. Rather than answering her question about how bad it was, he decided to sooth her otherwise. "We'll get everythin' put back to rights." He told her. And that was all there was to it. He said it with an air of authority, hoping to hell that she'd believe what he was telling her. He'd help her in whatever way he could. She had to know that. And then she asked the hardest question of all. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Because some people do idiotic things for idiotic reasons, Cassie. You can't understand it or reason with it because you're a good, honest person. Those men...? They weren't. And they deserve everythin' comin' to them now."

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1003, pretty girl , </3 she wants to go but she wants to hurt the robbers too.. cassie had not even thought about the gun safety or the state of the men in the other room, all she cared about was her husband had come to her rescue and he was standing there in one piece. she did not care about the stinging cheek or the dirty feeling that she had or the fact that her body was still shaking, he was all that mattered. it appeared that this wedding had turned into so much more than she thought it would as it was meant to be an agreement but was quickly growing into something with emotions and feelings and she was not going to even try and fight it. they were different, yes but even opposites attracted and though she did not condone violence, it seemed that she made an exception for nate because his violence was something good—in a strange way. he was doing a good job in comforting her, at least in her opinion as she was usually the person that had to calm people down but even cassie had a breaking point and feeling nearly violated and watching her bakery, her pride and joy, be destroyed was it. ontop of that, her husband had to be brought into her drama which is something that she hated but she was grateful for it, if he hadn’t arrived in the time that he did, there was no telling what would have happened. ”..you did.” [/b] she repeated while glancing up, cupping his cheek regardless of how shaky her hand was, ”you are my hero…you always seem to come to my rescue..”[/b] though this was not the danger that she was usually in. her drama, her life threatening moments usually revolved around her bike and needing a life to her old apartment but now, she just returned back to his place at the end of the night to him and that darling little angel that she considered to be a daughter. ”…how can I not? he was so close…I thought he was going to actually..”[/b] but the last word was a given but not able to be formed because even the thought was unappealing, unthinkable to how close of a call it had been. being in his arms at that moment was the best thing for the shaken up girl as she wanted to wash away the night with a shower, but a glance around the back room of the bakery gave her the indication to the timing that it would take to get everything ready to be opened. she could not believe that someone would be so disgusting as to rob a small town bakery in hopes of being just a little richer—and why her bakery? she was brought back to earth, out of her thoughts, as she felt a kiss brush against her temple and her head picked up to stare at his form. he was perfect in every way, muscular but still soft underneath at the same time. he was her angel, her hero, her everything and cassie was not afraid to admit it anymore. she was falling for her husband, something that was not meant to happen but she was not complaining in the slightest. they spent so much time together, feelings were bound to develop but she did not expect it to happen that quickly. she had to step out of his arms in fear of his shirt being soaked with her tears that continued to flow down her cheek one after the other. she knew that her face was now turning red from both the pressure of holding back tears and the embarrassment of crying over the incident that had just occurred but her bakery was destroyed and it was all her fault. ”I know we will….but I know it will take more time than I care bear to think about right now.”[/b] because her family legacy, her grandmother’s pride and joy and her own was now smashed from the inside out. she shook her head and brushed another hand through her tresses, sighing softly as the action relaxed her, ”police should be here soon…hopefully they just go jail, I never want to see them again…”[/b] especially a particular one with piercing green eyes that continued to leer at her. ”…if I had just told them where that safe was…”[/b] she muttered before taking the two steps to the back door and taking a deep breath. she was stepping in the wedding cake that had been recently finished, and the entire reason that she had been in the bakery after hours just so that she could have added the final touches and now she would have to start from scratch. she gave the door a small push, standing in the doorway between the store front and the back door and finally took in the eyeful of destruction. everything that could be smashed was in pieces even her chairs had been thrown around. ”oh..my …goodness..”[/b], her hand reaching up to cover her mouth before she turned to nate with tear filled eyes once more, ”can…we just go. home? please? I need a shower…and I can’t deal with this right now..”[/b] as cassie did not even want to wait for the police as she attempted to step over the robbers bodies who were tied together in an attempt to keep them from running away. she just needed air, she needed freedom and not to be around the shattered bakery and cassie realized that she did not even have to push the door open and could just step through the hole of shattered glass which she brushed with the utmost care as not to cut her finger. ”this can’t be happening..”[/b], she muttered with her arms now wrapped around herself in an attempt for comfort as she shook her head and found her eyes wondering around the entire path of destruction before meeting nate’s eyes and she just wished that he would say it was a nightmare but she knew the truth, this was reality. He had to smile at her a little when she called him her hero and claimed that he was always coming to her rescue. "Hey... an eye for an eye, right?" He soothed, running a hand along her back as he offered her a small smile. He would have thought that comforting a woman like this would feel odd to him but... with Cassie, it kind of came naturally to him. It was the strangest damned thing and yet, he wasn't going to complain in the least. He knew that something was happening between the pair of them. But hell... they were married. What was the point in fighting it? What was the point in resisting something that he had never thought he would have but now that he had it, he didn't want to let it go. "You're forgettin' how much of a hero you are to me too. Without you, Baby, there wouldn't be a hope in hell that I'd still have my daughter. And I doubt you realize how grateful I am for that... For you." He admitted to her.
"You push it out of your mind every time it creeps up on you because you know you won't give those bastards the satisfaction of knowing that they screwed your life up." He said. And he was speaking from experience. Sometimes, it was the only way to get through a day without breaking down. He knew exactly what she had thought that the sick bastard in the other room was going to do to her. But if Nate wasn't mistaken, he'd made the son of a bitch piss himself. Let it be known damned well that this woman was off limits for any sort of bastard that was out there on the streets. She was his and he'd protect her to the bitter end. He'd do whatever it took to keep her safe and, compared to some of the situations he'd been in, this was a hell of a lot tamer than normal. Those guys had been a joke. They'd been amateurs at best, but he figured that even amateurs had more capability than those morons. But he wasn't going to bring that up. In the moment, all she needed was comfort.
Which was why he was surprised when she pulled away from him. And yet, at the same time, he understood it. She still had her pride to her and, in the moment, she was trying to make sense of everything that had happened. She was stubborn as hell but, truth be told, he still didn't know her quite well enough at the moment to know what she was thinking. She was guarded in a sense and he really wished that she wasn't. It'd go a long way towards letting him know what he had to say in order to make everything right in her world again. She deserved so much better than this...
He looked at her when she started having second thoughts about the way she'd responded and reacted. "If you would have told them where the safe was, they would have still trashed the store and then they would have made off with the money." He said sternly because he wanted her to realize that she hadn't reacted badly. He wanted to make damned sure that she'd have the means to protect herself in the future... but he didn't blame her for the way she responded in the least. And once they were done trashing the store and taking the money... lord only knew what they would have done to her. "You stalled long enough for me to get here, Baby. Long enough for the cavalry to arrive and I can't fault you for that."
And then she was turning towards the destruction. A part of him wanted to stop her, but at the same time, he knew she needed to see it. She needed to understand that men capable of causing that destruction on something as innocent as a bakery had no fucking scruples. They wouldn't have hesitated to do whatever the hell they pleased with a weak and pliant woman. And the fact that she had resisted had likely saved her further damage. He doubted she realized that though and he sure as hell wasn't going to tell her that. She wanted to go home. He understood. She was devastated at the moment. But they couldn't go home just yet. He followed her towards the front doors, knowing that she needed to make it outside and catch some air.
She stopped there and looked so damned lost and vulnerable that it made his chest ache. "Come on." He murmured, gently corralling her outside of the building to stand there in front of it. He pulled her into his arms again and held on to her for dear life. She looked like she was ready to fall apart at any moment and he didn't want that to happen. He would be the glue that kept her together if he had to. "You're safe and sound, Cassie. That's the most important thing. I'll take you home as soon as I can, all right?" And then he'd provide his own brand of security for the bakery. One that the cops would never be able to top. "We just have to make it through this first and then I'll make sure everything'll be all right." And he would. He damned well would.

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1003, pretty girl , fdafdsajfdsafsa love them her eyebrow raised to him as she continued to nuzzle her flushed face into the skin of his neck that the shirt left exposed. she felt safe, she felt happy and secure, but most of all was that this was exactly how she never thought she would feel with anyone. cassie was not entirely guarded but was more into listening about other people’s problems than talking about her own. she felt that she could open to nate about anything and everything and yet remained closed up as cassie wanted to see the other side of him first before she showed her true colors. his hand moving down her back was soothing and resulted in tremors to run across her skin in the form of little bumps as this was about as close as they had been since tying the knot. they had not gotten married out of love but it was sure feeling like it at that moment, ”i am?” [/b] she asked with very little confidence in her voice. firefighter, army men, police officers were heroes in her eyes, not marrying someone so that they kept custody of their child, her eyes closed to the nickname as it sounded so sweet coming from his lips in comparison to the pet names that the males currently tied up in the front of her shattered store used for her. ”i realize it, but it just doesn’t seem like that big of a sacrifice…traded my bakery for you and you just saved it..”[/b], her voice low as she could replay the sounds of the glass breaking as the bats collided with the display cases. ”like I said, you are always there to save me…”[/b], and she leaned up once more to press a kiss to his lips before pulling away completely and letting her own arms be comfort for the moment. ”they didn’t, I’ll rebuild…it might take a lot of money and a lot of time but slice of cake will be back in full swing in no time..”[/b] but that was not the scar that was left on her. what was rushing through her mind was why, and why her? she was nothing compared to the woman of the world and yet, they targeted her, they targeted her small town workplace. her hand rushed through her hair once more and she shook her head which caused her head to spin a little, faltering in her step just a little. it was all coming back to her now, and she was finally coming down from the adrenaline rush that had erupted when she had been dodging the hands of the intruders and she was coming down hard. tears were starting to well up in her eyes but refused to spill over as she tried to blink them away with as much determination as she could for nate not to see her cry. ”it just..doesn’t make sense to me is all…”[/b] but there was a lot in life that did not make sense to her and she never dwelled on it, so why now? things rolled off her back with ease but this was staying on her shoulders as she heard the glass crunch under her feet. the sting to her cheek was starting to come in full swing and she reached up to touch the slightly purple away, wincing as she did so. ”…I would have told them faster if I hadn’t froze…been too scared to even talk..”[/b] she muttered as she touched her face once more and recalled exactly why she had been hit. ”I guess panicking is an okay thing sometimes and here I was thinking I was going to be cool and okay, just tell them where it was…how silly of me.”[/b], her head shook once more in disappointment of herself—but that was nothing new in cassie’s mind. she had to see what they did, she had gotten an eyeful but this was going to be the full version of it. she knew that glass was crunching under her sneakers with every step that she took, including over the legs of the male with a gunshot wound from nate’s navy antics. ”…wow.”[/b] was all she could muster up because it had only been maybe twenty minutes, maybe even less than that, and the place was destroyed. everything was smashed, there was nothing whole left in the entire bakery and that included her heart as she put a hand over her mouth as a sob forced its way up and mouth, slipping between the space of her lips that were currently wide apart as her mouth was hanging open. she nodded to him, following his steps until they were out of the store. ”didn’t even have to use the door..”[/b] she mumbled as the glass that held the windows and the door to show off the décor of the bakery was also smashed with small jagged pieces still attached to the wooden frame. she felt his body press into his and gave him a small smile as her head tilted up to meet his eyes, ”with you? always.”[/b] and was that the truth. this was just another sign to cassie that there was another side to nate that the world hardly saw, but she felt honored to see it now. ”okay…what if they wake up though?”[/b] she asked with general fear leaking into her voice without intention. she did not mean to seem weak or scared but she had never been touched like that without her permission, she had never had that tightness in her chest due to a male straddling her waist and she never wanted to feel it again. ”how?”[/b] she asked, her hands trailing up his chest and hooking around his neck. she was not in a flirty mood, she was not looking to get laid but she wanted comfort and being close to nate was the key to that and even cassie was aware of this. ”…pudding..”[/b] she grinned using the rare and rather embarrassing nickname for him, ”nate…how am I ever going to thank you for this?”[/b] because in her mind, there was no way for her to make this up to him—it would take two lifetimes to repay him even half of for what he had just did for her. though, they did have a lifetime together, so that was something, right? He looked down at her when she questioned him when he claimed that she was a hero to him as well. She didn't seem very confident in what he was saying. He had to give a small laugh and a shake of his head. "You don't give yourself enough credit." He commented. And as far as he was concerned, she truly didn't. "I don't know many people who would be willing to marry a man that they barely know just so that they can hold on to custody of their daughter as well as keeping the job they love." He said pointedly. "And that kind of kindness and caring isn't something that you find every day out there. Not by a long shot." And it was the truth. He had seen so much violence and anger in the world that the rare acts of kindness, caring and generosity always hit him straight in the gut. And lord knew that he hadn't come from a very good family lifestyle to begin with.
He was always fleetingly surprised whenever she willingly kissed him. And it seemed that she was more and more comfortable with the idea of it. It was curious indeed, but he wasn't going to complain about it in the least. in his eyes, as far as he was concerned, he was still the good for nothing kid that had blossomed into a man that was entirely too similar to his old man for his likings. He knew, logically, that they weren't anything similar. Nate used his abilities and strength to do some good in the world. His father had done nothing but destroy everything in his path... including the fragile trust of two sons who would have otherwise adored him and adored having a father figure in their lives. But it was what it was and they'd been dealt the cards they'd been dealt.
He nodded at her when her attitude towards what was to come changed slightly. "You're damn right it will." He commented, smiling at her. "And this time, you're gonna have the security measures and paranoia that only a SEAL can throw into the mix." He said pointedly. He was going to make a point of ensuring that she was taken care of while she was at work. Especially if he was going to be out on the job. He wanted to make sure that she'd be okay if she spent any long nights at the bakery again. He'd never be able to forgive himself if something happened to her while he was gone and he wasn't able to be there to stop it or to protect her. Perhaps it was foolish, considering this would have happened whether or not he was or was not married to her, but still... He cared about her. She was far too good for him, but he wanted to make sure that she was safe.
He understood her shock and confusion. He remembered back when he'd just joined the Navy and had gone on his first ops as a SEAL. He remembered the mindless bloodshed he'd seen and everything that was downright screwed up about the lot of it. He remembered wondering why the hell one human being would do this to another human being. And it was all the same now. How did those guys not have a conscience? And what would have happened to Cassie if he hadn't have gotten there when he had? No. No he couldn't think about that at all or he'd loose control, go back into the store and beat those goons on the floor to within an inch of their life. It was bad enough that he was going to have to explain why one of them was shot in the leg. Whoops. He gave her a reassuring look as she seemed to continue on about how she should have just told them where the safe was. "You're okay, Cassie. That's what matters most of all at the moment. We'll get the bakery all sorted out. I promise." And they would. Together.
He looked at her when she asked what would happen if they happened to wake up. "They're not goin' anywhere, Cass. I used flexi cuffs on them... They're basically giant zip ties. We use 'em when we're on deployment when it comes to restrainin' hostiles. If we trust them while we're out there, not a hope in hell are those dumbasses gonna break outta them." He could sooth her mind about that one small thing at the very least. He wished he could make the entire night infinitely better for her though. And then she was practically stretching her body against the length of his own. He wrapped his arms around her, knowing that she needed the comfort in the embrace of another person. He was more than happy to oblige in this case. Pudding. Christ. He didn't understand where the hell the name had come from, but she was the only woman in the world that could get away with calling him that. He shook his head though. "You don't need to thank me. We're married, Cass. All the hard times you go through are my hard times too." He said simply enough.

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1075, pretty girl , fdafdsajfdsafsa love them she really never did give herself enough credit but that was okay to cassie, the only thing that she was ever confident in was her baked goods that came right from the, now destroyed, bakery. the wedding cake that had been in the works was now in pieces on the floor and cassie had to force herself not to look at the six tier masterpiece that ruined and needed in less than a week. she looked up at him, as nate was much taller than her, and tilted her head while listening, but she scoffed and shook her head slightly in complete disagreement. ”I don’t know if you give the world enough credit nate..” [/b], her tone was soft, almost hurting to the idea that nate seemed to have lost faith in a lot of humanity while cassie continued to hold onto hers even after incidents like the destruction and looting of her bakery. ”I’m sure if you dug deep enough, there are many people who would have done it for you nate. I owed it to you though, you saved me so many times, you have always been there for me, you even lie and say that you like my cooking…”[/b] as cassie was a good baker, but she was not the best chef in the entire world, ”I owed it to you and I don’t regret a second of it.”[/b]. there was the truth, all out in one shot and she had mumbled most of it except for the last two sentences. she did owe him, and now she owed him even more and had no idea how she would ever make it up to him for the act of bravery that he had performed. she could feel her heart beat slowing down as she slowly began to rationalize everything that had occurred, but the bruise on her face was now stinging and cassie could not help but wipe at her cheek or brush the strands of hair out of her face as one of the robbers had done numerous times. she pressed a kiss to his cheek, whispering a thank you against his skin before deciding to take the brave step and walk into the actual path of destruction that laid ahead of her. it was hard but with a few deep breaths and two or three hesitant steps, cassie stepped over the ruined cake and began to head to the door. ”I got to do this..eventually, might as well be now, right?”[/b] she asked him, rhetorically, before swinging the door open which knocked into one of the robbers foot as they were tied up near the wall. a gasp escaped her before she could even keep it down in her throat while her hand reached up to cover her mouth. the crunch of glass could be heard under her feet and she was quick to move through the path of destruction while trying to keep note of what was exactly destroyed and what needed to be fixed. her eyes fell onto the robbers who were knocked out from either pain of a bullet or a small beat down from her husband and her brows furrowed with anger and frustration but no matter how mad she was, cassie would not take it out on them. they had been trying to make a living, and though a small town bakery was not the best target, she was going to give them the benefit of the doubt. her eyes slowly trailed away from them and followed the glass path that led out to the exit that left nothing unbroken or flipped over. ”..why..”[/b] she whispered under her breath and soon was being led out, gratefully, by nate’s grip on her. she took in a deep breath of the fresh air, her back to the destruction as she stared out at the empty streets, ”I know. I know it will be okay…and I just need a shower to be one hundred percent okay..”[/b] and to burn the clothes that she was currently wearing in order to get all evidence of that male’s touch off her. he had been too physical for her liking and though nate told her not to, cassie’s mind wondered to what could have happened. would he had really raped her or was he just trying to scare her? something told her that he was just playing a mind trick on her, and it worked as she ready to spill all the secrets of the bakery from where the safe was to the recipe of the cream sauce that was placed in the cream puffs. ”it was a good game that they played, mind …screwing. he wouldn’t have really done it, at least…I don’t think. he just wanted to know the safe’s location, which was strange because it was in a room that they had already trashed”[/b], she slowly began to piece things together, ”so why..”[/b], it was all muttered under her breath while she tried to be logical about everything which was hard for cassie because she was not actually a logical person. pieces fell where they had to, and she just rolled with the flow that life was taking her but this was a scary path that it had led her down and she could not help but question it. ”okay. flexi-cuffs?...”[/b] she asked before the question was answered and she let a small nod slip as her sign of understanding. ”well if the seals trust them, how can I not?”[/b] she asked with a small grin in his direction. she couldn’t help herself as she needed to be held and her husband was right there, her steps took her until her body collided with his and her arms wrapped around his waist. her face nuzzled into his neck for a moment, taking in a deep breath of him as she slowly began to calm down as her shaking had ceased to continue and her breathing and heart rate were back to normal, ”you shouldn't have had to go through this one. this was…..”[/b] and then a thought struck her as she picked her head up, ”is sarah okay?”[/b] unsure of why she even had to ask that as she knew that nate would have never left his daughter by herself. she was confident that the neighbors had her, or were at least listening for her but a strange maternal instinct kicked in, something that cassie never thought she would have. Nate looked at her when she said that she didn't think that he gave the world enough credit. And for a moment, he actually felt a bit of shame in that. He had lost his faith in humanity a hell of a long time ago, but he supposed that that was just what happened to a kid that was beaten down by life time and time again. He had wanted, from the earliest time he could remember, to be strong enough one day so that no one would ever victimize him again. He had wanted to be tough enough so that the words that other people threw his way no longer hurt him. He had wanted to eventually be a good enough man that no one would feel the need to remind him of the bad blood that coursed through his veins and the way he had been as a child and through his teenage years. He'd been no good. He was still no good. Especially not for a woman who was as incredible as this one.
She was sunshine in his life and he sure as hell didn't deserve that much kindness... that much goodness there at his fingertips. He didn't know why she was there with him or why she wanted to be in his life in any meaning of the word... but she was there. She had been willing to help him and he had made a vow to himself that he would be good to her. He would always be good to her through thick and thin. She deserved so much better than him and yet he was all he had to give her. Every part of him and he'd make damned sure that, some how, some way, she saw that. She saw that he was in this for the long haul. She saw that this was about more than him keeping his daughter as far as he was concerned. Because somewhere along the way, she'd started a little flame up in his heart and, as the days passed, it only seemed to grow in intensity.
He gave her a funny look when she said that she had owed this to him. How the hell could she ever be so indebted to him that she felt the need to marry him and bind herself to him in a way that he had never imagined that she would? He'd been there to help her with the smaller things in life that she'd needed a hand in, up until now. He considered this to be a big thing in life because it sure as hell didn't happen every day of the damned week. "You didn't owe me anythin'." He commented gently. "But I appreciate it all just the same." He wanted to say more but... while he had a wealth of emotion and feeling inside him a the moment, Nate had never been terribly great at vocalizing them. He showed them in other ways, sure... but he could never quite bring himself to say them.
Nate watched her as she bravely opened the front door to the bakery. He was there with her, lingering just behind her as she went on inside. The gasp she gave just about scared the bajezus out of him, but he just went on in and stood in the center of the room in plain line of sight of the men who had turned his wife's world upside down in a matter of moments. It was amazing how it could take a lifetime to build up something as renowned as Cassie's bakery, and only a few moments of savagery to break it all down again. But he'd help her rebuild it all. He absolutely would.
And then she was trying to rationalize something that, for a woman like her... gentle, sweet and loving, would never be rationalized. It was mindless and it was cruel and it was all about money. "There's any number of reasons, Cassie." He said gently. "Ranging from 'they didn't see it' to 'they're dumbasses'." He commented dryly. "And honestly, my money's on the tail end of that particular spectrum." He murmured as he took a moment to continue surveying things. Anything to keep his mind off of the fact that one of those unconscious sons of a bitches had their hands all over his woman. Nate would have loved to cut those hands off and teach the bastard a thing or two about how to treat a woman. Any woman. Not just his woman. But he would have paid twice as badly for having touched his woman if Nate would have let himself go after him. He had to keep himself in check though. He had to. He'd already done enough damage that he'd have to answer for.
He smiled at her when she made the comment about SEALs trusting the flexicuffs. Nate wouldn't have trusted them with a criminal who was a bit more crafty. Flexicuffs certainly wouldn't have held him for more than many... five minutes... but then, Nate and the rest of the guys who were qualified to wear the trident were trained in escaping and evading. Those idiots on the floor could barely tell the difference between the broad side of a cow's ass and a national park. And there she was again... worrying over him when the only thing she should have been worried about was herself and getting through the monumental blow that had just been dealt to her life. "This was unavoidable. It's life and you're gonna get through it with me at your side." He said simply and then laughed when she immediately thought of Sarah. "She's fine. She's with the neighbour at the moment. "I'll give a call up in a few minutes and make sure everything's fine." He murmured, soothing her. He smirked then. "Look atchu, bein' a Mama Bear." He grinned.

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1006 , pretty girl , fdafdsajfdsafsa love them her body was in physical pain as she crunched the glass under her feet with each step that was taken. she had no idea how this place was going to be fixed or how long it would take to get the place open again but she had to do it. this was the only living legacy of her family in this town, it was a huge part of people’s day and cassie felt as though she was now disappointing people and that caused her to sigh loudly. she looked over to the three men that were sitting tied up, groaning and half-awake with some injuries on each of them as each of the men had taken a different hit from nate. she would never condone violence but even now, cassie wanted to punch and kick them until they were black and blue for messing up one of the good things in her life—one of the only things in her life. her grandfather’s health was fading fast and she had to come to terms with the fact that he would not be around for much longer which left her with nothing in this town but her new family—which was enough for her. cassie had a hard time with letting things go once she was attached to them which was a flaw that she had since she was a little girl and her mother tried to tear her away from carrying around a doll after she turned eight. the doll was ripped from her after having been in her life for all eight years and cassie figured that was where her attachments steamed from. the bakery was yet another attachment and to see it this injured, destroyed and broken was enough to shred her heart. she just had to keep telling herself that it would be rebuild, that the food would be made again and her business would be open. otherwise, she would go insane if she did not keep reassuring herself that everything was going to be okay.
”just doesn’t make sense..” [/b] she muttered outloud but she knew that there was no justification. these men were looking for money and found something more delightful in their opinion and she just thanked her lucky stars and any other celestial body that nate had gotten there when he did. it took a lot to get cassie riled up, it took a lot to make her hate and get to break down but this was doing a good number on her as she walked the length of the bakery and turned around to see the full view of the damage. everything was destroyed, there was nothing that was not untouched including the pictures on the wall. she reached for one of the frames and started to tilt it before the wire on the back broke and it caused the entire picture to drop to the ground, smashing and mixing along the mess that was already the bakery’s entire contents. the back area was the only thing really untouched which was good because that was the most expensive thing, just the cake that was due to be sitting at a reception in a week was ruined and maybe a mixer that she had thrown in the way. ”this is going to be such an expensive fix…”[/b], moving away from the frame and pushing the door open which caused more glass to break off and shatter. ”dang it!”[/b] she cursed under her breath, giving the doorframe a good kick which caused a hiss from her throat as she hobbled out the door and stood, waiting for the police officers to arrive because cassie just wanted to go home now. she wanted a shower and sleep, she did not want to go downtown or answer questions but she knew that at least a few of those things would be happening. her eyes met his as he spoke and she sighed softly, giving him a small nod before brushing another hand through her hair, ”I think that’s the only way I would get through it nate..”[/b] she spoke honestly. he was becoming more than just a husband to her but her support, a rock for her to lean on when life became too much and nate would probably know how much she appreciated that. she let out a relived sigh as she learned the whereabouts of their…his daughter, ”good! okay. …”[/b] but she was still worried. the little girl was hardly old enough to speak and she was without her father and herself, which cassie wondered if she would be considered a mother. ”can’t blame me. she’s adorable, and I’m so in love with that little girl..”[/b], and that was the first time that cassie had admitted it out loud. she would do anything for sarah as long as it kept the little girl happy and smiling. the thought of not having sarah in her life anymore was something that cassie did not want to imagine, it would be just as hard as if nate wasn’t in her life which was something that she refused to think about. thankfully, the sirens grew louder meaning that the police had arrived but she looked to nate for some kind of guidance on how to even report this. cassie had never had anything like this happen before, never had she had to make an emergency call for herself or anyone else and cassie had never expected to but fate was cruel to her tonight. evening you two.., the police officer eying nate as though he was a criminal which caused cassie to wrap her arm around him, ”..not the best evening but, same to you.”[/b]. so a robbery huh? well we will catch these guys for you m’am, be rest assured. which caused her brows to furrow as she gestured to the bakery, ”well that job has been done already but I appreciate the determination.”[/b], giving nate’s waist a squeeze as she looked up to him with pleading eyes, cassie just wanted to go home. He knew it didn't make sense. It never made sense. Violence and cruelty in the world had certainly never made sense to him, and yet he fought violence with violence on a regular basis. There was no other way to get through to those people in the world who would victimize those who were innocent and pure of heart or those who were generally weaker than they were. There was never any justification for it and yet they did it all the same. They were without morals or a higher calling. They were without any sense of dignity or honor. They were precisely the type of people that the men who had just destroyed his wife's livelihood were and it drove him insane to think that he couldn't do anything more to soften those sons of a bitches up. He'd already walked the border on what was and wasn't appropriate, but he knew well enough that he hadn't done any lasting damage and that if it came down to it, there were a number of people who would have his back.
And there she was, thinking about how much of an expense this was going to wind up being. He sighed and shook his head. "We'll get it sorted out, Cassie. I know it's all very overwhelming now, but we'll get everything worked out soon enough and you'll be back in business before you know it. If I have to, I'll call in a few favours and get a group of friends here to help put everything back together again." He told her. And he'd gladly do it. Dallas would help. He knew that damned well. And he had a few friends that would gladly make the trip out to lend a hand. Friends that Nate had done more than his share of good deeds for in the past. "We'll get through this all." He reassured her. And he'd make sure that they did.
He shook his head as he watched her little fit of fury. She was a feisty one, but the fight was slowly draining from her. She was tired as hell and she, no doubt, just wanted to go the hell home at this point. But they still had the police to deal with. Nate would do everything in his power, however, to make sure that everything was taken care of relatively quickly so that he could get her home again and put her to bed. "Take it easy, Cass. You're gonna hurt yourself, Darlin'." He murmured, trying to get her to see reason at the moment. He just wished the god damned police would stop taking their sweet time and show the hell up. With the rate in which they were moving, a hell of a lot could have happened to Cassie by now if she would have been relying solely on their lazy asses.
"Well then so be it." He murmured. "We'll get through it together, Darlin'. We just need to keep a level head about it all and think smart." He reassured her again. He certainly hadn't left his little girl at home alone. The neighbor was probably worried sick about what was going on, so Nate would be sure to thank her in the biggest way possible when they managed to make it back home again. He smiled at Cassie and kissed her forehead when she said that she was in love with his daughter. His baby girl was remarkable as hell and he loved her to pieces. He didn't know how something so beautiful could have come out of such a nasty situation such as the one that he'd been in with Sarah's mother. His little girl would never cease to amaze him and neither would the woman beside him.
Nate was fairly used to the looks he got from the police whenever he was confronted with them. He looked to be the military type and there was no denying the fact that there were a fair number of men in the military - spec ops to be exact - who had had more than one brush up with the law. Hell, Nate had had his share of them back when he was just enlisted and a complete and utter hothead. But he held his ground and looked the cop right in the eye, his gaze unflinching. The little show of support Cassie gave by wrapping her arm around him went a long ways towards tempering a snarky comment on the tip of his tongue. And then Cassie looked up at him with those damned eyes and Nate knew that he needed to take charge for a moment.
"There's three guys in there. Two of them were put out by a tap to a pressure point and should be comin' around any minute now. The third one had his hands on her and pulled a weapon on me. I was a quicker draw. If you wanna see my sidearm, there're two rounds missing. One's in the bastard's leg, the other's in the ground in the store." Nate looked up and pointed to a store across the street. "There's a security camera mounted on that buildin' that looks to be facin' the street. If you don't believe me, I'm pretty sure all the proof of what happened'll be right there on video for you. Now, if you need us to come to the station, we'd be more than happy to do that... in the mornin'. For now... My wife is exhausted and traumatized, I have a little girl at home who's with our neighbour at the moment and it's damned late, Sir." Nate said, looking the man straight in the eye.

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1006 , pretty girl , fdafdsajfdsafsa love them things had gone from bad to worse in a matter of a few steps and cassie could almost feel her heart now lodged in her throat with each step that she took. her fury was building up and it took a lot to get her riled up but when she took in the destruction that three boys had caused, it boiled her blood a little more than it should have. she could easily let things go but this was personal, this was not just her but her grandmother and her family, it was an attack against her loved ones and that was not an okay thing in her book. those boys could have done anything to her as long as the bakery had been intact but they were looking for destruction and they had done it well. they had accomplished their goal and caused cassie to be more angry than she had ever been before but instead of taking it out on the male population in the room, she decided that the place was destroyed enough, why not another pillar to add to the collection. the kick had just made the wood wobble but it remained intact in the ceiling and the floor and she gave it another one until her foot was throbbing. she had heard nate’s plea for her to stop in fear that she would hurt herself but it was better than turning around and beating the now defenseless males in her mind. an eye for an eye was not something that she agreed with and was not going to give into her own inner demons just to satisfy her anger which was slowly melting away anyway. exhaustion was now taking over as she nodded to him, ”foot is throbbing, cheek hurts..back is achy but it’s all that is stopping me from going in there and punching the snot out of all three of those guys.” [/b] and as much as she wanted to, cassie would not give into that kind of temptation. she would be stooping just as low as them and she liked to think of herself as moral and helpful, not unmoral and violent. ”right..just…got to think of the money. i’m so scared to even find out how much it’s going to cost but..it’s my grandmother’s, it’s all my family has left, what this town has left and these idiots have destroyed every piece of it.”[/b] except the spirit of the store. people came and went, new people arriving all the time and coming back for more. it was a landmark in the town and cassie was well aware of the reactions that she was going to get from people but she did not want pity or even help from them, she needed them to be patient while the store was fixed and though the girl knew nothing about carpentry, the entire store would be fixed. she would be there the whole time, overseeing that everything was done exactly the way that it had to be and here was not going to be a dispute about that because she would win. her family and this bakery were the only things that she would ever fight the current against and the state of this bakery was raising a red flag to her. cassie’s balled fists began to rub at her tired eyes, thankful that she had not worn mascara or else she would be looking like a raccoon at this instant. instead, she looked like a victim with her dishevelled and ripped clothing, her messy hair and her marked skin. she felt so vulnerable and all she wanted to do was go home, if only the police officers would drive just a little faster and make her wish come true. the sirens could be heard and she was confused as to why they sounded as though they were getting further away until the patrol car pull up infront of the store and two officers stepped out. the look that gave nate was a questioning one, as if wondering if he was a crook himself and cassie decided to show them exactly who he was—her hero. she had no idea how to handle this situation but it seemed that as her mouth was opening, nate was already speaking and that was alright with her. she raised an eyebrow as she listened to the injury list and how her husband had managed to knock out two of the robbers who she was sure were still unconscious in the main room of the bakery but she was not sure about her main assailant. were you a witness sir?” spoke one of the officers in which cassie shook her head, ”he’s my husband, I called him…well before I called you guys actually. I knew that I needed him here and he would help me. if he hadn’t arrived, you would probably have either a murder or a sexual assault case alongside of a robbery. he’s a hero.”[/b] and that was exactly what she thought of nate and that thought was not going to falter. so everything he is saying is true, three guys, with gun and a bat. did the male touch you anywhere else.., which caused cassie to flinch and her hold on nate to drop but she shook her head, ”it’s true. all of it, the guy with the bullet in his leg…or knee was trying to coax me into admitting where the safe was. his hands were never not touching me though whether it be straddling my waist and moving the hair, or brushing his gloved hand across my cheek.”[/b], the truth was coming out faster than she intended and she knew that nate probably did not want to hear all of that but she had to be frank with the officer if she ever wanted to go home. any other witnesse? employees?”, but she just shook her head, ”felt like a tyrant keeping them for as long as I did, so I let them all go home. I forgot to lock the door and I went back to finish the touches on the ca…”[/b], her eyes widened to the realization of the wedding cake being ruined as it finally hit her as the words were coming out of her mouth. she had to clear her throat to continue, ”cake…and they just started to destroy the store looking for the safe..that’s..its. if I knew why, I would tell you..but I don’t…I assume it’s a regular robbery..”[/b] she gave a low voice, looking to nate to see if she even answered everything right. her eyes pleaded once more and this time it was followed by a yawn, turning to the officer with the same chocolate brown puppy eye look, ”can I please just go home?...i can’t look at this anymore as he said, we have a …little girl at home that I’m sure our neighbors are taking care of but I know we can do a better job at..”[/b], her hand dropped from around nate’s waist and returned to fold across her own chest, finding her body language was saying more than her actual words could. Yeah... Nate knew the feeling a little too well. His concern for her was probably the only thing that was keeping him from a stay in jail and assault and battery charges at the end of it all. Those bastards in the other room had turned his woman's life upside down and had hurt her where it counted to her most of all. And that didn't sit well with him at all. Honestly, it might have been a little therapeutic for his wife to go over into the room and start wailing on those sons of a bitches, but at the same time, he knew damned well that doing something like that would do more harm to her spirit than good. Cassie was a pure little soul. She didn't believe in violence and the fact that she was even contemplating doing something like that was a testament to just how upset she was at the moment. He wanted to get her home and get her to forget about the night.
And then she was starting to worry about the money that it'd take to fix everything up. But Nate wasn't kidding. They wouldn't need to hire on carpenters. A good portion of the guys he knew were damned handy. Dallas knew a hell of a lot about all that kind of stuff and so did he. They'd grown up dirt poor on a ranch that had constantly needed tending to. That being said, most of the time, they were left to do the work. They could get this place fixed up with a little extra manual labor. It was simple as that. They could and they would get it all done. "Hey... Hey... Don't you worry about the money right now, Cassie. You have enough on your mind and I promise you... it won't cost nearly so much as you seem to think it will." He told her. They'd get it all sorted out.
Nate stood there in front of the police with that same unwavering gaze. He could tell that they were suspicious of him, but honestly, with Cassie's arm wrapped around him like that, what the hell were they so fucking suspicious of? It wasn't like he was coercing her somehow. As Cassie spoke, one of the other officers approached him. "Where's your sidearm?" Nate tossing his head over his shoulder. "Small of my back in a holster." The officer eyed him. "May I?" Nate nodded and held both of his arms up in plain sight. The officer reached for the gun and checked the rounds. Just as Nate had said, there were two missing. "While you're at it, grab my wallet." He commented. That'd probably solve a lot of problems right then and there. "Left back pocket."
A moment later, the officer fished the wallet out of his pocket and opened it up. Immediately, he was greeted with the sight of his military ID. "Chief Petty Officer Nathan Xavier." He said, holding the ID up so that his officer buddy could see it. The man glanced over his shoulder. "Navy?" The officer asked, arching a brow at him. "Special Warfare Division." And then the officer clued in. "Now. You know who I am and you know damned well that you'll be able to get ahold of both of us if you need anything, but please. Just let me make sure my wife and baby are taken care of for the night." The officer finally nodded reluctantly. "We'll have to keep a hold of your sidearm for now." Nate nodded. "I don't need it to keep my family safe." He said before he wrapped an arm around Cassie. "Come on, Baby..." He murmured to her as he started leading her towards the truck.
His mouth was set in a tight, angry line as they headed back to the truck. It clearly pissed him off that they treated him as if he were some kind of criminal in his eyes. He'd seen and done more shit than those boys would ever know and everything he'd always done had been in the name of his country and they had the audacity to treat him like a common criminal even after everything that he'd proven to them in being honest. But he had to let it go. They were just doing their job... "We'll get you home... I'll run you a bath and make sure Sarah's in bed and then we'll head to bed, all right?" He asked her. She needed the chance to unwind even a little bit.

. bring me to life in a million colors, bring me love like no other NATE/MEL <3, 1023 , pretty girl , fdafdsajfdsafsa love them had no idea how she ever got so lucky as to have gotten the chance to have someone like nate in her life. he was first an amazing friend, then a perfect crush and now an indescribable husband. he was loyal and compassionate and she liked being able to see the side of him that no one else did, he was not just some strong male that had an ego to match, he was complex and deep and that was what cassie was mot intrigued about. she wanted to know who he was when he was not around the same people and she had found that he was doting, helpful, superior but allowed others to take charge, nurturing and caring as well and that was enough to keep her around. the feelings that she grew for him over the small amount of time that their marriage had been active was also a good reason to stick around in her mind and this was just sealing the deal as he comforted her and reassured time and time again that everything was going to be okay, and she was starting to believe it. ”…might have to chop off an arm and a leg to get the place up and running again…that’s how much I’m thinking it will cost. manicured hand goes for how much on the black market?” [/b] she asked giving her hair a quick run through with her hair, trying to keep it not too disheleved but she was already a mess and that was not going to be helped without a shower and good night sleep next to her husband. it seemed like the costs would be more than she could afford and would either have to dip into the savings account that she had or ask her grandparents for the loan to get the bakery back up. she had not even thought about her grandfather and what he would say when he found that what happened to the place, cassie just hoped that his heart would not stop beating because of how broken it would be. ”he’s going to be so disappointed..”[/b] she whispered under her breath before heading out the door and waiting for the cops to arrive which occurred in a world record of the longest wait a police squad to arrive but when they did, the two men seemed skeptical about nate and his whereabouts and also his possible role in all of this but cassie had to put her foot down when the questions was becoming harsher and the accusations were written in plain sight. ”officer…one and two, this man here is not the threat, he’s not the criminal, he’s my husband and he saved me, something that took you guys forever to do…”[/b] but she put her hand up when the male tried to speak over her, ”he is a seal, he’s brave and just and what he did was shocking and slightly revolting in the form of shooting that male but it was all to save me and i don’t know what I would have done if he had not been around.”[/b] and she had said her peace. the sidearm was checked and she was even more surprised to find that his wallet was inspected as well, she peered the id and chuckled, ”nice picture petty officer nathan xavier.”[/b], giving him a grin before looking over to the officers who seemed to be discussing everything between them and finally including nate in the conversation. a breath was suddenly let out as casise had not realized that she had been holding it in as her arm wrapped around his waist once more and she followed him to the car but not before giving one last look to the now police taped building that was once her family’s legacy. she wiped at her eyes once more and watched the two officers roll the yellow tape across the shattered windows, and led the men out and by that point, the two of them were at the truck. she leaned against the side for a moment, catching her breath for the first time since she had been out of sight of the rubble of her bakery. her eyes were still watering and she continued to wipe at them while the skin around her nose and eyes started to burn a light pink. it was like everything crumbling down on her and she slowly slid to the ground, crouching on her haunches while holding her head in her hands. this was her unwinding, this was cassie letting out everything that had just happened. that had really just happened and she had finally come to terms with it. the tears that she had been fully holding back since the first assault by the robber were finally opened and the flood gates unleashed tear after tear to roll down her face. she was so disappointed in herself for giving in that fast but not being smart enough to figure out a way to stop the destruction. she would have given anything to them, money, cake, herself, anything if they had agreed not to smash the bakery to the extent that they had. her head was hidden in her arms which were resting on her knees, her ankles were starting to ache just a little as all of her weight was being pressed onto it and her back was against the door of the truck. ”sugarfoot..sorry nate…sorry..”[/b] she choked out as she took the final deep breath of fresh air and slowly rose herself off the ground. the door was opened and she slid into the truck with ease, looking over to him and placing a hand on his knee, giving it a small rub while her other arm remained wrapped around her own body, ”they were jerks…don’t let them get to you babe.”[/b] she spoke softly before nodding to the plan that he had for her, ”sounds..perfect…”[/b] she whispered, giving his knee a squeeze and then returning to having both arms wrapped around herself while staring out the window, praying that everything was going to be just as okay as he promised her.
