Her father is a partner in a respectable law firm in Georgia and her mother was known for her few roles on screen. Born on an unusual date Delilah Jane Rossen is what’s called a “leap year baby” due to being born on February 29th. She was followed by a younger sister named Jaclyn Rossen two years later. When Delilah was five her name became common in many households, her family’s as well because of the horrible events that occurred. The neighborhood the Rossen family lived in was a quiet one and no one ever suspected what would happen could even happen there. She was kidnapped from her front yard while her mother was tending to her sister’s injury. Lauren Rossen claims she only went inside to get a bandaid and by the time she came back her daughter was gone. The search began twenty four hours later for the missing girl after the neighborhood had been searched thoroughly by neighbors and friends of the family. The case of the missing five year old made national news and stayed that way for an extended amount of time as the upset parents refused to give up the search for their little girl. Fast forward two years, the cops had never found any promising leads or any signs of the missing girl. A woman sees a new neighbor moving into a house down the block and he has a girl with him that looks familiar. She waits and the girl is not seen again in a few weeks time though it is lovely weather and she should be going to school with the other kids in the neighborhood and her own sons. One day an old news report comes back to light as the Rossen family holds a charity event for their missing daughter, raising money for families suffering with the same type of pain in losing children and the cases going cold as they’re never found. The woman realizes why the girl seemed so familiar and calls the police. The police are eager for this chance to find a missing child and make preparations to find out if it is truly her. The man listed to own the house she saw the child go into has no children according to official records and that is suspicious enough to earn the cops a chance to get into the house and look. Finding her in the basement chained up and abused Delilah Rossen is rescued and the man who owned the house is arrested. The official report shows the child was repeatedly beaten, sexually assaulted, and that her mind has been affected by what happened to her. The world is outraged that this could happen to such a sweet little girl and the man gives up the information about the situation to try to protect himself though he knows he’s not going free. He’d purchased Delilah from a child sex ring where she’d been sold to him for a hefty price due to her normal contracts being a month long lease. The man had paid to get her out of the ring and have her for himself. His information about the sex ring helps the police to close it down, finding those responsible and locking them away as they deserve. She was taken to a medical facility where she’s treated for her injuries and for her mental health. Her parents are so grateful she’s been found but are still unable to bring her home because of the case that is on-going and because of her health. It isn’t until her eighth birthday she is allowed to visit her family, the arrangement made so that she can spend her birthday with them because it’s a leap year and she can spend the real day. She does remember them and though she will never be the same as she once was she is still their little girl and they do what they can to make her feel comfortable in her home. Time passes and things start getting better. She may not be on the path to become who she would have been before being kidnapped but she’s recovering and making a life for herself. Delilah channels her emotions into art and it isn’t until school that it causes a second splash in her life. The art is seen as disturbing and dark, it is received as a look into the mind of a child whom had been taken and broken. She doesn’t want to forever be known for what happened to her but she refuses to change herself or her art for anyone either so she just ignores what the world is saying and keeps to the art that helps her. The art is protested against by people who don’t want to see what is inside the mind of someone who suffered so much and it’s praised by those who think she should be free to express herself and that her art teaches a lesson and opens eyes. She ignores both and keeps living her life until things settle once again and “normal” comes back as much as it ever had been since what happened. Her other outlet for so much inside of her is through fast speeds though the only people who know this are the police who could once catch her and give her tickets or those she races against in underground races. Going to college on her own and branching out trying to break away from what she once was she takes steps to become someone other than what everyone expects. Her darker artistic pieces are not shown as often and in their place lighter more hopeful pieces emerge and are welcomed as a sign that the woman is finally healing and becoming more comfortable with her past and herself. She doesn’t tell anyone that the nightmares will never go away and doesn’t show that it bothers her when anyone asks about it anymore. She tries to show she’s a new person, fresh and bright. Artist Disposition :: Delilah has become her own woman and has tried to put aside her past to show the world that it is not all that she is. She was at first known as a quiet girl, reserved and shy. Afraid of the world around her and trying to go unnoticed by everyone because she didn’t like being known for what had happened to her. These days she hides it behind a bright smile and an outgoing personality that shines through making people believe she is a strong woman who rose above her past hardships and became more. She’s known to be outgoing, friendly, caring, and even flirty these days. Her somewhat bubbly personality is taken as a sign that people can heal and move on. Being in the public eye at a young age didn’t do her many favors aside from being able to put a smile on her face and act like everything’s fine. Knowing Delilah’s true emotions is tricky and only those who are very close to her can normally tell when something’s not right because she’s become very good at acting like everything’s fine all the time. She doesn’t lie to people with the intent of hurting or upsetting them and not about important things, mostly about herself not anything else. She’s developed a temper as well through the years and has taken defense and fighting classes. She made herself strong enough to never back down when faced with a difficulty or problem because she doesn’t ever want to become weak again so she faces everything head on and lets whatever may happen happen. Delilah is known to like things like shopping, flirting, art, singing when she doesn’t think others will notice, trying new foods and enjoying her favorites like lasagna or pizza, cars, her pajamas, dancing along with songs on the radio, the thought of becoming a teacher to help children learn to love art, and various other things. The things she doesn’t like are known to be the dark, being held down, being bored, silence, the media trying to get into her life again on the anniversaries of what happened to her, spiders, people pitying her, police officers who give her speeding tickets, nightmares, auctions though some of her art gets auctioned off (she just sends someone to keep an eye on it for her), being alone and various other things. Delilah once said her greatest fear is waking up and it all being a dream. She’s afraid one day she’ll open her eyes and be back where she was and never be found. Another fear she claims is just as great as that one while laughing normally is spiders because nothing should have “that many legs” according to her. Artist Statements :: “Yes I know my childhood is a nightmare and people are curious because it’s human nature to be curious about what you don’t understand or what you don’t commonly have to deal with in your own life. That is why I understand why people can be so fascinated or curious when they find out who I am or what I’ve been through. Knowing that though does not change how i don’t like being reminded or having to face it over and over. A big part of moving on is putting it behind you and I don’t think I’ll ever get the chance to do that in truth because of that human nature that’s making people want to know more. It’s just something I deal with and move on.” “My art is not a way for me to show the world what happened to me through my own eyes. The people trying to make it out to be that way need to please stop because that is not what my art is about at all. What my art is to me is a way to express my emotions, thoughts, and whatever else is in my head. Sometimes it’s just something random not something symbolic and sometimes it is about anger at something so stupid as me forgetting to bring a pencil to class. Not everything is about what I went through and people need to realize that.” “Yes I like flirting and going on dates and being a normal girl. I do understand why people would assume I’d be scared of it or wary of dating or letting men be around me or things. What everyone needs to understand about this though is that I am not going to live in fear forever. I’m stronger than that and I’m going to live my life and have the love and happiness I deserve. I won’t let what those men did to me stop me from being happy and having my dreams come true. They taught me not to let men use me if anything and now as long as the man I’m with can respect me and me him? So long as they don’t push me to do something I don’t want? I can be with them and be happy so I’m going to flirt my little heart out to find that man because you never find anything without putting yourself in a position to be able to find it.” |
