She knew that she was cutting it close but she’d been roped into helping sort out the college before this since they’d wanted volunteers and somehow the teacher had managed to volunteer her whole class. Ready to just be home she’d planned just a quick stop at a local store so she could get what she thought they’d need since they were going to stick it out at the houses. She wanted to be close to her grandmother should anything happen and that crazy woman refused to leave her house and go down to the center where she’d be safe. So she would be staying right next door where she could keep an eye on the house and make sure the woman didn’t try hosting a hurricane poker party or whatever she’d come up with. Lissa loved her grandmother so much but sometimes she wished she’d be a little more like a normal person when it came to things like hurricanes? Not exactly a common occurrence but still an issue that shouldn’t be taken as a sign for a social gathering like she would do.
The plan had been perfect except one thing…her car didn’t agree for whatever reason and here she was stuck on the side of a road between the store and home with no way of getting the stupid thing running again since while she could make anything from scratch she knew next to nothing about motors. She’d sent a text to Nick after getting no answer from Court or Matt when she’d tried calling them. Even though they weren’t speaking right now she did hope he’d at least read her text with the current weather situation going on. Emergency texts were different than “talk to me you ass” texts not that she’d sent any of those either. She had tried talking to him but he was in his “push you away cause I can’t deal” mode and right now was a really really bad time for that even without the hurricane thanks to the news she’d gotten about a week and a half ago. Sighing she looked around the area her car was stopped again and saw the same thing she’d seen the other times…nothing and no one that would be helpful in this situation should no one know to come get her. The house was too far of a walk and with the winds already starting to get pretty harsh she knew her luck would either have her falling over or getting hit by something so sitting and waiting was her only option right now.

[/style][/style] [style=text-align:center; text-size: 9px;]WORDS: more than one TAGGED: lick NOTES: <3 nick could imagine the joy of the students right now. no school on a scheduled school day... it was as good as christmas to a lot of teenagers who now had an excuse to skip classes and hang out, get high, or drink. the city wasn't in lockdown yet, but it had been decided by the schoolboard that it wasn't safe to have students in class and that preparations had to be made to keep the school safe in the fast incoming storm, so the students were told to stay home while the staff, specifically the male staff, were told to come to the building as normal and help board it up for the hurricane.
you'd think, that with as many males as they had on staff and the females who had decided to tag along, boarding up the school would be quick work, but it was anything but. nick felt like they'd been at it all day, though it had been perhaps five hours, when his phone began urgently vibrating in his pocket. a moment later the michael buble ringtone confirmed the identity of the texter... not to mention attracted plenty of attention from those nearby. he set his hammer on the floor, ignoring the raised eyebrows from his coworkers as he dug out his phone, catching only a quick look of the screen before he told the nearest man that he needed to go, and took off to his truck in the staff parking lot. the weather outside battered him the moment he left the building, the foul weather had worsened while he was working inside, but that and the fact that it was no quick drive to lissa's location only made it more necessary that he go 'a bit' above the speed limit towards her when possible, all the while praying that cops had more important things to do than track down speeders right before a hurricane.
unfortunately, the fair amount of distance between the school and where she was stranded allowed him plenty of time to get nervous and tense, even before he could see her car on the road up ahead. being in a vehicle together kind of forced conversation... but hey, the trip couldn't be too long, right? he pulled up on the road alongside her, jerking his head to the seat beside him to indicate that she should hop in. there wasn't a hell of a lot of time, or good conditions, to try to fix her car at the moment.[/style][/style]

this lovely template was made by Arro from Caution 2.0.

She could feel a headache coming on and whether it was from the pressure of the storm or from the fact that there was so much she was dealing with and bottling up on her own that was causing this headache she didn’t know. She just hoped it didn’t get too bad since she didn’t want to be dealing with that on top of everything else. She knew the ride with Nick would be interesting, being alone in his car would be interesting since they weren’t currently speaking so it would probably be a pretty quiet ride filled with more reason to have a headache. He would need to make sure she didn’t do something stupid like blurting out everything she needed to tell him in a space where he couldn’t just run away from her, tempting but she didn’t think that would go over well.
Seeing his truck coming up behind her car on the road she reached over into the passengers side to grab her purse and the two bags of things she’d gotten for weathering out the storm at home. Looking over at him through the windows of the vehicles she saw how he jerked his head and nodded giving a soft sigh before climbing out of her car and hitting the lock button on her keys before climbing into the passengers side of his truck setting the bags at her feet. ”Thank you for coming to get me…no one else was answering their phones.” she mumbled her voice quiet as she pulled the seatbelt to buckle in. ”Hope you weren’t busy with anything…” she added before reminding herself that she needed to try not talking so much to avoid blurting everything out. She wanted to very badly but knew she couldn’t just verbally dump that all on him that way no matter how mad she might be or upset or scared or worried or anything.

[/style][/style] [style=text-align:center; text-size: 9px;]WORDS: more than one TAGGED: lick NOTES: <3 even before she got into the vehicle, nick felt the tension set in every fibre of his body. he could probably count the amount of diverse words he'd spoken to her over the last little while since their blow up on his two hands. he'd made a point of going to work early, never objected to staying late to help out, avoided eye contact... hell, he'd even assigned two of his classes written assignments so that he would have something to mark at home, keeping to himself in his bedroom, door shut, saying that he didn't have time to go out and be social... childish, perhaps, but to nick staying alone and little communication was better than an outright blow out that could officially end the best thing in his life for the past three years.
”Thank you for coming to get me…no one else was answering their phones. Hope you weren’t busy with anything…” he'd watched her as she climbed into the vehicle, but the moment she started speaking he swallowed and looked away, focusing perhaps a bit too much on the road ahead as he shifted the truck into drive and pulled away from her parked vehicle, hoping that nothing happened to it before they could recover it. "no, i- uh, we were almost done boarding up the school when i got your text." he was a shitty actor. always had been, and always would be. there was no way that his uncomfortable stiffness could be hidden in his tone, which probably made it wise that he just not speak at all. his eyes glanced over to her for only a millisecond before even that was deemed too awkward and he looked forward again. the knowledge that his brother, especially, hadn't answered his phone frustrated the gym teacher... with a hurricane fast incoming, he couldn't believe matt was being so stupid and not paying attention to his phone. what if nick hadn't been able to come get lissa? she'd be stuck out in a storm alone. yes, his frustrations were probably unreasonable, but when he was stressed and uncomfortable he needed something to focus those annoyances on... his brother was the unlucky target and the cause of nick muttering under his breath, "i'm going to kill matt for letting you go out alone in this weather."[/style][/style]

this lovely template was made by Arro from Caution 2.0.

[/style] [STYLE=border:2px solid #000000; width:380px; color:#5D5D5D; font-family:calibri; font-size:11px; line-height:90%; padding:20px; text-align:justify; border-radius: 0px 10px 50px 10px; box-shadow: 3px 3px 3px #9d9d9d; text-transform: lowercase;]Melissa knew that the pair of them were probably being ridiculous in how they were acting toward one another right now, him seeming to spend long hours working or closed up in his room and her spending long hours in the kitchen at college or the library even though she didn’t need to be there. She had taken to sleeping in the guest room instead of their bedroom and more recently spending nights in the tiny bathroom attached to the spare room since she felt sick more at night than any other time of the day it seemed. She, like many women, wondered why the hell it was called morning sickness when it could happen at any time in a day or in her case mostly at night. She knew that this ride would be tense and would do her best not to make it any worse since she wouldn’t have even asked if she’d been able to reach someone else just to avoid this awkwardness between them.
She hated that they couldn’t talk right now, hated that she couldn’t tell him something that was so important and that would change their lives, hated that this was all over something that to her made little to no sense. She had understood the “we can’t tell people” thing when she was his student, she hadn’t wanted him to lose his job anymore than he wanted to lose it. Now that she was in university though it was different, they could be together without him getting in trouble and if he wanted they could even say it started after she graduated just so long as she wasn’t his dirty little secret anymore because it hurt living like that watching other people as couples and knowing she might never get that at this rate. He hated fighting with him about this though because they were both too stubborn for it to end well unless one of them gave in and she had been giving in since he found out she was on his student list.
Hearing him actually speak to answer her apology and comment about hoping he’d not being busy she looked over for a second before looking back out the window giving a little nod. ”Well that’s good…glad the school’s gonna be safe through this.” she said awkwardly and shifted in the seat to try getting comfortable and trying not to get motion sick from looking out the side window like she was. She could handle looking out the front window without getting sick but he would be in her side vision and she would be tempted to look at him more since she hadn’t really seen him in awhile. Hearing him though she closed her eyes and sighed, ”I made the choice to go out in this weather Nick. I’m an adult no matter what you seem to think so he had no say in whether I went alone or not even if he’d been around.” she said not wanting the brother’s to fight too.

”I made the choice to go out in this weather Nick. I’m an adult no matter what you seem to think so he had no say in whether I went alone or not even if he’d been around.” for a moment nick closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and didn't say a word. he was frustrated because he was worried, but he knew that if he said anything a fight could easily ensue and that was the last thing he wanted, especially in the vehicle when neither of them could immediately leave. She just wanted to talk to him and didn’t know how to start the conversation anymore since they were butting heads over and over whenever they talked it seemed. She took a deep breath keeping her eyes out the side window as her stomach rolled a little reminding her of family trips when she was younger and how her mom would sit in the back while her dad drove so she wouldn’t get sick the whole way. She knew she shouldn’t be adding to what was already going on that had her feeling sick, but it was easier this way in the long-run.
Hearing him she shook her head a little at that and sighed, ”I was helping close up the college earlier, the equipment we have in there is really expensive and they asked for all help that was willing and I was one of them. After that I wanted to get a few things on the way home. So just don’t…I’m not going to fight over this with you Nick…I’m so sick of fighting.” she said leaning her forehead against the passengers window and closing her eyes. ”God are we almost home yet?” she asked focusing on her breathing and not noticing how her voice shook a little when she spoke.

[/style][/style] [style=text-align:center; text-size: 9px;]WORDS: more than one TAGGED: lick NOTES: <3 quite simply, nick was tired. he was tired of feeling like he couldn't make a wrong move. he was tired of feeling like if he cared about his job he was being an ass to his girlfriend. he was tired of having his brother giving him weird looks, or glares from courtney, or any of the shit that happened whenever he and lissa got into one of their little fights, or a larger one as this one had turned into. why the hell couldn't he have a normal relationship without feeling guilty about going outside? the age difference wasn't his fault, but he needed his job, and he knew the thoughts of some of the other staff members on age differences, not to mention policies and ethics in general on student/teacher relationships. relationships between seniors and freshmen were frowned upon, he could easily imagine the uproar over a six year age difference...
”I was helping close up the college earlier, the equipment we have in there is really expensive and they asked for all help that was willing and I was one of them. After that I wanted to get a few things on the way home. So just don’t…I’m not going to fight over this with you Nick…I’m so sick of fighting.” another deep breath. another long pause, jaw tense, with nick focusing out the windshield and the ever increasing rain that his windshield wiper were fighting to keep up with. his speed had slowed to a crawl because the visibility was so poor, and it was only getting worse with every second. suddenly a vehicle loomed ahead, and if not for the red brake lights nick probably wouldn't have noticed it in time to pound down on the brakes himself, "shit!" the truck slid on the wet road for a second before stopping a few inches away from the stopped vehicle in front of them, which started moving a moment later, but nick didn't move the truck an inch, peering through the driver's side window. "okay. i'm not getting us killed," he muttered with a quick glance at lissa, slowly driving the vehicle to a nearby multi-story parking garage, driving up the deserted garage to one of the top floors. "let's just... stay here a bit. until there's at least a lull in the rain, then we'll head home."[/style][/style]

this lovely template was made by Arro from Caution 2.0.

Anyone who knew her knew she was friends with his younger brother and had been forever. Anyone who knew that could make the leap that she’d known Nick for the same amount of time and that through time and getting to know each other this had bloomed one day. She couldn’t imagine what was going to happen when she started showing…the whispers about her being a whore or he rumors she didn’t know who the dad was because she couldn’t ever say it was him if they were pulling this “not together” stuff. She hadn’t known about the baby when they’d started this fight but it was now just one more thing weighing down on her shoulders as she thought of facing everything alone if they couldn’t find a way past this.
Opening her eyes and quickly placing a hand on the dash to prevent being thrown forward even if she had the belt on her heart raced as she waited for the truck to slam into something or stop. She was thankful it just stopped instead of hitting anything and took a shaky breath moving her hand off the dash and the other from where she’d wrapped it around herself protectively. She hadn’t even thought of the action in guarding her stomach even if it would do no good, but it had happened. ”Yeah…no please don’t…none of us.” she muttered shakily and sighed as he pulled into a parking garage glad he’d thought of this since it would be a safe spot for now with the way they were built so sturdy. ”Okay…yeah we can just…fine.” she said running a hand through her hair. ”God not now…” she mumbled to herself and cracked the window open for some fresh air as she took deep breaths trying to calm her stomach and closing her eyes.

[/style][/style] [style=text-align:center; text-size: 9px;]WORDS: more than one TAGGED: lick NOTES: <3 extra time, whether it was five minutes or a half hour, with lissa alone in a vehicle was not what nick wanted, the last thing he wanted really, but it was a necessary evil. he wasn't going to be an idiot and drive in extremely poor visibility in the middle of a storm. it was too difficult to see even just a few short metres in front of his own vehicle, and with the danger of falling trees and other vehicles on the road accidents were just waiting to happen, potentially very dangerous accidents. death vs. being stuck in a vehicle with his angry girlfriend? he supposed the latter was the lesser of two evils.
he pulled into a parking space, turning the key in the ignition to shut it off. the interior was warm for now, he could turn the truck back on if the temperature dropped, but for now he was happy letting the vehicle fall into silence, leaning back in his seat with a slight sigh, closing his eyes but opening them almost immediately when he noticed a cool breeze caused by the window being down. it was then that nick remembered lissa's occasional motion sickness, and figured his own completely logical reasoning for her sickness. She was glad when he made the choice to just stop even if it meant being stuck in a car while he was not talking to her. She wished they could just sort everything out, talk and solve their issues somehow but it was an issue that didn’t seem to have an answer because they wanted different things and she was getting more worried every day that passed in this awkward silence that they wouldn’t be able to fix things this time. What if it was just too much and he chose to call it quits with her? Then she’d really be screwed or look like that desperate girl trying to trap a guy with the “I’m pregnant you’re the dad” card or something.
Pushing those thoughts away for now she focused on breathing, deep breaths in and out that she hoped would be somehow soothing for a change. It was hard to tell when her stomach just wanted to feel icky or when it actually wanted to rebel against her entirely these days and she just had to wait it out and see. Hearing Nick’s question though she shook her head as she unbuckled the belt and lent forward to rest her head against the dashboard wrapping her arms around herself. ”Loaded question…current answer though? No.” she said her voice soft as she kept her eyes closed and tried not to be sick. ”Don’t have to be sorry…wasn’t all your fault…well wasn’t all the sudden stop’s fault and I’ll be okay once I decide if this time it’s the real deal or just the feeling.”

No.” nick barely resisted the urge to groan. no, he didn't want to get into this. not now, not ever. he knew that though he might not want to, they would have to address it eventually, but there were better times for it than while stuck in a parking garage in the middle of a storm. an outside person might view and decide that nick was just looking for every excuse to avoid confrontation, but nick's logic made perfect sense to him. he just didn't want an argument that would officially end the relationship that had been on the edge for quite a while now.
”Don’t have to be sorry…wasn’t all your fault…well wasn’t all the sudden stop’s fault and I’ll be okay once I decide if this time it’s the real deal or just the feeling.” and, of course, the logical assumption if she didn't think the sudden stop was the cause was that she was sick. as a high school teacher he noticed trends of students home sick, including one very recently. She mentally cursed her own car and its inability to just get her home where she could have avoided all of this, avoided him avoided this urge to just spill her guts and the urge to puke her guts up too.
Giving a humorless laugh at what he said she shook her head a little and sighed, ”Oh no…no see a flu bug I could handle right now. This? This I can’t.” she said taking a breath and sighing. ”I can’t handle any of this though…fighting with you about something most couples never even have to consider, worrying about you breaking up with me right now, dealing with the knowledge that I’m pregnant and if you do break up with me I’m dealing with that all on my own? Being in this car wanting to just tell you everything you’re clueless about and knowing I shouldn’t be…fuck.” she said realizing she’d actually been saying that all out-loud not just in her head. ”oh no…nonononono…” she mumbled pushing the door open and turning to slide out of the seat leaning against the side of his truck taking deep breaths trying to calm down.

[/style][/style] [style=text-align:center; text-size: 9px;]WORDS: more than one TAGGED: lick NOTES: <3 it was hard to have a good conversation when you didn't actually want to have a conversation at all. everything he said was awkward, flller statements and questions code for "i need to say something but i don't really want to", even if he was worried about her health, he didn't want anything that would develop into a deeper, angrier conversation. ”Oh no…no see a flu bug I could handle right now. This? This I can’t.” but, of course, when did karma ever respect nick grammer's wishes?
”I can’t handle any of this though…fighting with you about something most couples never even have to consider, worrying about you breaking up with me right now, dealing with the knowledge that I’m pregnant and if you do break up with me I’m dealing with that all on my own? Being in this car wanting to just tell you everything you’re clueless about and knowing I shouldn’t be…fuck.” her words came fast and fluid, with barely a pause between any of them. word after word, phrase after phrase, so quick that nick could hardly keep up. what he did notice, however, were a few very key words.
'fighting with you', nothing new, he was aware of it, he hated it as much as she did and yet he didn't want to take steps to stop it in case that backfired. 'you breaking up with me' was something nick hadn't even considered. he'd considered them ending up breaking up with each other, or her angrily breaking up with her, but for him to take that first step? never. despite the secrecy that he felt was necessary, she would always be one of the best things to ever happen to him. he didn't want to be the one to call and end to and destroy that. 'pregnant', his mind conveniently skipped over. but... then there was nothing left, and he was forced to return to that p word, the one he'd never expected, never wanted for a very, very long time...
his body posture tensed, eyes focused on her, but not really seeing her. while her mouth was repeating 'no', his mind was repeating 'shit', over and over and over. this was not happening. it could not be happening. he and lissa could not have created a child. it... must be impossible. somehow. he didn't know how, but it had to be impossible. his parents would kill him. just... kill him.
it took him a moment to realize that she was no longer in the vehicle, that the open truck door was letting all of the cool air and sound of the pouring rain into the vehicle. his eyes refocused on the open door and the now vacated seat. an unsteady hand reached behind him to his door handle, pushing it open, then unbuckled his seatbelt and climbed out, wandering around the front of the vehicle, closing the door so that it didn't separate himself and lissa. "i-" ohshitohshitohshitohshit it wasn't as though there was a handbook to the perfect things to say when you found out you'd knocked up your girlfriend. "you always did run your mouth off when you were overstressed." a weak smile accompanied the words that came from nowhere. the panic in his mind would eventually fade... right?[/style][/style]

this lovely template was made by Arro from Caution 2.0.

So not part of any plan she’d ever thought up in how to tell Nick what was going on. She’d thought it out too, get him to talk to her again was the first step followed by finding the right moment to say “so there’s something huge I need to tell you” then telling him in that right moment. Blurting it out while stuck together in his truck during a storm when they weren’t talking? Went against that so badly. She hadn’t realized she’d been speaking out loud though, thinking she was having a mental ramble till she’d caught on. She’d just put it all out there, her fear about him breaking up with her and more importantly the P word that she’d been guarding so carefully until just now when it had come flying out during a ramble that shouldn’t have happened outside her head.
Leaning against his truck she took careful breaths as she felt her eyes sting with frustrated tears. She was frustrated with herself for doing that, frustrated with the situation they were in because of the fighting, frustrated with her car for dying on her, frustrated with this damned storm…just…frustrated. Hearing him though she let out a soft snort and nodded, ”Yeah…bad habit of mine…I should work on that sometime.” she said and sighed leaning her head against the truck as well now. ”I’m sorry nick I didn’t…mean for this to happen and I didn’t mean to just blurt it out like that…just it’s been on my mind non-stop since I found out and…sorry.”
