She dropped everything to go to his side. The small girl grabbed her keys and she drove to the hospital but she wasn’t really present, reality swam around her and only luck got her to the hospital safely. Her eyes didn’t see the traffic lights and her brain didn’t register the cars in front of her, she just drove. Someone must have been looking out for her otherwise she’d have ended up in the bed next to Cole instead of in the chair beside him. When Sienna entered the building, she barely sputtered out Cole’s name before she was escorted to his room and there he was. There were tubes sticking out of his mouth, helping the sixteen year old breathe and his face was stitched, torn apart from the glass of the windshield. Sienna looked around to her family in confusion. How could this have happened to Cole?! Of all people, her precious Cole. Everyone in the family had someone they were closest to. Benji and Finn were six months apart and were best friends. Sadie and Annabelle were born on the same day. For Sienna, Cole was her plus one. She was two years older than him but he was the closest to her in age and in heart. Seeing him broken like that brought tears to the tiny woman’s eyes. Covering her mouth with her hand, she looked for answers in the solemn faces of her family and found them in the guilty expressions of Benji and Finn. ”What did you two do?” She managed out, emotions hot in her voice as he tears spilled over. Sienna wasn’t a crier, she didn’t do tears but her cousin, the Finn to her Benji, the Sadie to her Annabelle, the Yin to her Yang was lying in bed, fighting for his life because of something one of these two boys had done and Sienna would be damned if she let them walk away from it without making damn sure they knew just what they’d done. The story came and they boys’ apologies fell on deaf ears with Sienna. She ignored them as she stared down at the boy, eyes stinging hot with tears as she getting took his busted up hand. Cole was the smart one in the family. He was going to go somewhere. She may have had the talent but he had the brains in the family. He was everything that was good and now, here he lay, broken. It didn’t take long before Sienna couldn’t stand to be in the room any longer. With her head down, the girl turned on her heel and exited, wiping at the fear tears she’d allowed to escape. She wasn’t paying attention as she walked and bumped right into someone. Whoever it was had been big enough to knock the five foot two girl down and Sienna just hid her face in her hands and cried softly on the floor, feeling broken and utterly, totally and completely alone in that moment. |
