She had always been too shy and self conscious to venture out onto the dance floor and put on a public display of sex with someone she didn’t know. Noel, Kassi’s cousin, chalked this up to the fact that Kass had yet to lose her virginity. Constantly, the girl was on her back about just losing it. ”Just get drunk and get your freak on.” Noel would tell her but that didn’t matter to Kassi. The woman wanted to remember her first time and she wanted it to mean something. It didn’t have to be a forever type thing but it had to mean something. Being the daughter of a famous rock star, Kassi had no end of suitors who would have happily rid her of her sacred flower. But, despite not being a romantic, Kassidy was holding onto it.
As per usual, it was somewhere past two in the morning and Noel was wasted and practically fornicating with a man on the dance floor. Before long, they would stumble out and Noel would be giving that man the night of his life without the slightest concern for Kassidy. With a soft sigh, Kassidy dismissed herself, taking one more glance at Noel who was all smiles with a man’s hands on her hips and his lips marking her neck. In the morning, Noel would stumble in with whatever pair of sunglasses she’d managed to lift from said person’s house and she’d spend the day bitching about how tacky her marks where but for now, Noel was enjoying it.
Kassidy left a tip on the table and headed outside, inhaling the crisp, cool night air and looking up at the looming clouds. It seemed as though it would rain and honestly, Kassidy was looking forward to it. Having spent her entire life in California, the young woman was sure she could count the times it rained on her fingers. She was looking forward to a little wet weather to help take the California desert off her skin and cool her hot body.
Unfortunately, Kassidy didn’t have any idea how to get to her apartment from here. She could have jumped in a cab and told them the address but Kass was craving a little bit of quiet and a long walk in the cool night air so she decided to walk instead. Probably not wise for a small woman such as herself to do such but she was going to do it anyway. Typing her address into the navigation system on her phone, Kassidy started down the street as it indicated. She passed a few more night clubs like the one she’d just left and traveled back into the main part of the city where businesses and bars resided.
Despite walking alone, Kassidy wasn’t completely stupid. She was perfectly aware of her surroundings. This was what gave her the confidence to walk by all the bars that were enroute to her apartment and endure any catcalls that the drunken men dared to make. She tolerated their crude comments and just kept walking, enjoying her night in spite of them.

it was a set pattern these days for the guilt ridden navy seal, hardly feeling that he was worthy of that title these days. his best friend may have been alive but the light from his eyes had been flickering for weeks since returning back to his home, to his girl and that killed dylan in a sense. he felt like he could have been the one to prevent the accident from happening and he could not shake the feeling of anxiety most nights when trying to drift off to a world outside of this one. the sleep realm used to hold peace for dylan but now, it was nothing but nightmares and bad memories on the field. dylan had been so ready for battle in the physical state but he was not prepared for the emotional toll that would be paid in the end. he felt completely numb while seated at yet another bar, sipping a drink that was sure to go straight to his head on an empty stomach. he had swings of up and downs these days, some days were better than others but this was one of the down-swinging ones but dylan was not drinking for the pure thrill to get drunk, he was drinking for the sport of just numbing himself a little, at least so that he could get sleep. this was only his first drink that he was currently nursing on and it had been his first drink for nearly an hour now. people have tried to get him to talk but dylan would just grunt in an unfriendly fashion before turning his head away, obviously not in the mood to speak to anyone or do anything but sip his drink and be left alone to his thoughts. news travelled fast because dylan was soon left to that very thing, himself and his drink.
the last sip was a satisfying one as he laid the money on the bartop and strolled out with his hands in his pocket to keep some warmth in his body. opting to walk to and from the bar, the route home seemed longer than usual as his own thoughts had been pushing past the boundaries of his neighborhood and proceeded to get stuck into the less than pleasant area ¬ and it was moments like these, peering at the homeless and the damned, that dylan realized how much he had in his life. he was a navy seal, he was a hero in some eyes and a reckless trainwreck in others, he had no label and no sense of self these days as he moved day in and day out with nothing more than the cellphone that would eventually call him back to the field—and without his best friend. sighing, he pulled his jacket closer to his body as a crisp wind blew past him and he quickly fixed his clothing situation including rolling his sleeves down and zipping up his coat in order to keep his body heat preserved. he was trained for this kind of thing, knew how to fight the element but even at this moment, he was unable to take the cold that was hitting his face. wiping at his eyes, dylan blamed the small weak leak of air hitting his eye but he knew it was the thought of his life that caused the tear to roll down his cheek and no matter how fast he wiped it away, the track was still there.
sighing softly, dylan felt another drink would have been a good idea, maybe two more in this case as he mind was truly whirling this night and he was unable to shut it down. he had been expecting anyone else to be outside, and certainly not someone who appeared as she would—prim and proper, contrasting against the run-down and dilapidated structures that was surrounding them. furrowing his brows as her shoulder collided into him, he had half a mind to bark out a comment but he stopped and rubbed at his forehead instead before sighing, ”you look a little lost.” [/b] and that was not a question. she was out of place here and it was evident, a little stupid of her to be in this kind of area, wearing what she was, in this weather, the circumstances were not in her favor and giving a glance around, it was obvious that dylan was going to have to be a guide or some kind of hero to her if she wanted to make it through this area with everything intact. ”not really the kind of place that a girl like you should be wondering around...”[/b] he noted, giving her a glance up and down with no shame before smirking and shaking her head, ”good thing you ran into one of the good guys around here..”[/b] or so he thought. dylan was not sure if he was the good guy in the story of life but at this moment, he was not going to attempt anything on her without her permission and he was not going to lie and say that the thought of doing anything with her, consensually, had not crossed his mind while standing there. dylan was certain that at this moment though, he was probably the lesser of two evils. As he commented on her situation, she nodded. ”I am a little lost.” She told him, licking her lower lips and sinking her teeth into briefly as she watched him. Her brain was working to try and decide if she should be concerned about this man’s presence, if she should be calling nine-one-one or if she would be alright. She was really hoping for the latter because this man didn’t look like someone to trifle with. Having grown up with Noel and her constant need to be the biggest badass in the room, Kassidy knew enough to talk a big game and maybe even get herself out of a scrap with an average gentleman – providing he didn’t want to damage his prize too much. But this man gave off the air of someone who was better to have on your side than against you. Still, Kassidy was cautious of the man’s underlying intentions.
”A girl like me?” She asked, looking around herself. Yup, he was still talking to her. ”What do you know about ‘a girl like me’?” She inquired. The words could have easily been confrontational and if they had been from Noel, they would have been but Kassidy was sweeter in all ways than her cousin and managed an honest curiosity. It was a legitimate question in her mind. What kind of girl did she look like? A rockstar’s over protected daughter? That would have been correct but she tried not to advertise it and be so obvious about it. Still, Kassidy wasn’t use to being so openly looked over. Normally it was just catching a fleeting gaze and being left to wonder. Apparently there was something intimidating about Kassidy because she was rarely ever approached. ”See something you like?” She asked. Probably not a good idea to flirt with a stranger but the words had slipped her lips before she could think twice about them.
As he proclaimed to be one of the good guys, Kassidy let her eyes wander over him slowly before lifting up to meet his. ”How do I know you’re one of the good guys?” She asked. He was a very handsome man, no doubt but something about him seemed a little…wild? Untamed possibly. Whatever it was, it intrigued the Los Angeles born girl, leaving her curious about him. That probably wasn’t a good thing since curiosity had killed the cat after all.
