Rhian felt like there was still so much more to do before the baby came, but at the heart of it all and deep down inside, she knew damned well that it was her mind playing tricks on her. Most everything was set to go. The nursery was all set up for the baby and ready to go. They had a bassinet set up for the baby and ready to be pulled into their bedroom once he came. Rhian knew, logically, that they were about as ready as they were ever going to be to welcome their baby into the world, but at the same time, she was terrified that it wouldn't all be perfect for him. She wanted nothing more than to be able to provide her son with everything he would ever need in life. He would always know that he was loved and protected by both of his parents and, yes, even his uncle.
She was putting the last of the baby clothing they had away into the small dresser in the nursery when she got the text message from Dean, signifying that he was on his way home. She smiled to herself as she slid her phone back into her pocket and closed the drawer in the dresser. Everything in the room looked perfect. Everything in the room felt perfect and she knew damned well that in the coming months, she was going to spend a lot of time in that room with their son. She placed a hand on her belly and looked down at the bump that had grown there. "Any time now, Little One." She murmured with a smile before she shuffled from the room. She felt more like she was waddling everywhere than anything else.
She just about made it to the kitchen when she nearly doubled over in pain right there at the counter. She grabbed hold of the counter and sucked in a breath. "Okay. When I said 'Any Time' I meant that you should probably wait for your Daddy to get home." She gasped. "SEAN!" She yelled. She wasn't even sure if he was home at that point. The pain eased up a little bit and Rhian managed to get herself seated in one of the kitchen chairs. She focused on keeping her breathing steady. She counted it out in her mind. A short while later, the pain was back again. She bit down on her lip, trying to muffle the sounds of her pain. She didn't need the repetition of the contractions to know, somewhere in her mind, that this was the real deal.
A moment later, her future brother-in-law came skidding in to the kitchen. "Hope you didn't have a quiet night in mind because I think the baby's finally decided that he's ready to make an appearance in the world." She commented. "I need you to grab the overnight bag in the closet in our bedroom, Sean. Dean should be here any minute." She said, trying to force herself into a state of calm so that she didn't wind up panicking Sean any more than he likely already would be. She tried to calm herself in the moment, even though her mind was racing a million miles an hour.
Finally, the front door to the apartment opened and Dean stepped through. She looked up at him almost immediately and smiled. "Guess what..." She said, gritting her teeth as another contraction took hold of her. "Our little boy apparently says it's time." She commented once it had passed enough to get the words out. She knew they had time to make it across town and to the hospital. She needed to keep both boys calm in the moment. It was strange how she could be going through such fits of pain and yet, at the same time, be so damned calm in the moment. "Sean's grabbing the over night bag from the bedroom. All that's left is for us to..." She trailed off at a sharp pain in her abdomen, a frown coming over her features.
Maybe they didn't have as much time to get there as she thought...
"We need to go, Baby. Now." She said, looking up at Dean with wide eyes. She knew, deep down inside, that something just wasn't right in the moment.

days have been crossed off on the calendar, red marks through each block to lead up to the day that she was meant to go into labor. however, the stared day had passed two days and dean was on edge while he was turning bottles behind the bar. he was meant to be a show-off, competing in one of the frivolous competitions that his workplace participated in every year. he was meant to be making drinks with style and speed but his mind was not in the game and his partner was continuing to bump him with her elbow every few minutes as the bottle would fall from his hand or his eyes had a distant look. he would mutter, whispering an apology to the girl and try and get his mindset back but it was a failure each and every time. excusing himself, much to his partner’s annoyance, and stepped into the backroom, pacing for a moment before grabbing his coat off the chair and reaching into his pocket for his phone. his shift was not even a proper shift and he was not getting paid for doing something like this—so why stay? a quick message to rhian was given and dean was starting on his way out the door, shoving his palms against the handle in order to push the door with the force needed to open it and walked out. he zipped up his coat as soon as the warm air was replaced with thin, crisp breezes and he ran a hand through his hair, sending an apology text to his competition partner and explaining why he had to go. his mind was not in it, it was on the days of the calendar and how many passed she was due, and when he was going to be able to finally be a father—and if he would even be a good one.
it was a walk home this time as the car had been parked in the garage of the apartment building for the past three days just incase the girl went into labor and she needed to get there, without him. he had hoped that it would not come to that as dean wanted to be there for every second of his child’s birth but it seemed that fate was cruel to him and only a few blocks away, his son had made the choice to enter the world. sean was in the living room, staring at the jumble of words but also distracted but for other things. his nephew’s birth did not really come into his mind as he was more focused on the weight of the world that was pressed onto his shoulders in the form of his tutor’s own psychological condition. he wanted her to be okay, he wanted her to at least feel safe but it seemed that the more than he was with her, the worse that she got. his appearance was just a reminder of that night and it caused him to be uncomfortable and he leaned back into the couch, wondering where his older brother was. he had been seated on the couch for a few seconds, tossing the pen onto the table and tilting his head back before rising out of his seat and heading into the kitchen to grab a glass of water and something to eat. he heard his name being called and his pace was quickened, jumping over the chair and rushing into the kitchen. his momentum had been too much and he had to grab the threshold wall in order to avoid sliding on the tile floor, ”what!?” [/b] he called frantically, looking at her eyes and then to the bump. the words had his eyes widening and he nodded, rushing out of the room with no response to her words as he felt his mind go into a state of shock. sean began to rush around their room, throwing things into a bag and preparing for the arrival of his brother who was he texting frantically to get home. dean’s phone was going off in his pocket and with annoyance, he pulled it out and began to read the consecutive messages that were being sent to him by his brother. the baby was on his way, now, at this moment and dean was not home. no reply came to the texts which caused sean to be a little spastic while getting things together, dean’s walk turned into a run as he sprinted past the people on the sidewalk, side swiping and contorting his body to get around large groups in order to reach the apartment. ”RHI!”[/b] he called while rushing into the apartment after having fumbled with the key to both the entrance and the front door. he rushed over to her, placing a hand on her stomach and shaking his head, ”okay okay. he just needs to wait like …five minutes..”[/b] because the idea of the speed limit was an afterthought to dean. ”SEAN.”[/b] he called out and on cue, the younger brother came rushing out with two bags in his hands and was out the door before dean or rhian was. giving a small chuckle, dean whipped his head around to face his fiancé, nodding to her. ”right now.”[/b], he noticed that something was off about her but he figured it was the shock or maybe the slight adrenaline that must be coursing through her. taking her hand, his fingers laced with hers, dean pulled her closer and slowly lifted her into his arms as he knew that his pace would be faster than hers, ”just hold on.”[/b], his lips finding her forehead before he used his foot to shut the door behind him and rushed down to the garage where sean was already waiting in the car for the two of them. dropping her into the passenger seat, dean ran around to the driver’s side and pushed his foot onto the gas, weaving his way up to the road and toward the hospital.[/div][/center]
