ever hear of that good kid gone bad? well danny is a textbook example of that cliché phrase as it seemed that his life was heading in the right direction from the get-go. he was following the basic guidelines of a baby’s growth, walking and talking at the usual times and even slipping in a funny face or two to make his two adoring parents laugh. he even got a little sister at the age of three, someone that danny is furiously protective over and would do anything for—about the only person in the world that he can say that about. he claims that what he does is for her own protection but his parents did not buy a second of it as they were too blinded by the disney fantasy world that they saw in their town, while the two siblings knew more about the truth than any adult ever would. nestled away in the Midwestern state of ohio, there is a town called boiers. it’s sleepy, appears to be boring with the usual charm of any small town but the difference would be that it’s far from charming. the mayor is said to be under the thumb of a young street gang that technically rule the streets and the law was their word and everyone just turned a blind eye. curfews were set though, rules became more strict, police force slacked and it seemed that the rebellious part of every teen broke out on the same night which would include that of danny and sadie, his little sister. at this point, sandie was thirteen years old and just being introduced to the underbelly of the town while danny was already far deep into the drugs, the drinking and the all-around debauchery.
it goes without saying that danny is now a product of his environment. he was born into a loving house with three people, four if the dog is counted as being another life but it seemed that the more time he spent outside, the colder, the harder and the more trapped he became. the product of dealing drugs became his source of income and his entire social life surrounded the people that both smoked or snorted the drugs or were alongside him in the dealing. they spoke to a large group but never actually met the main male, just his associates and it was always thin ice when meeting one of them. danny can recall a few bruises for his otherwise smart mouth but, his group was not the only drug gang and that was where his sister began to get involved when she began a secret relationship with a seventeen year old from another group. hidden and unknown to danny, the cat was out of the bag only months in but it was enough for danny’s reputation to shatter and for his sister’s life to be put on the line. he struck a deal, agreeing to a large heist because the thought of anything happening to his sister was out of the question. his own gang turned their backs to him, leaving danny to go solo in anything that he had agreed to with the rival group. the heist was meant to be moderately hard, a test to see how far the male would go and for sadie—he would go to the ends of the earth. his reputation and his live was on the line when he broke into the house of the mayor, searching for whatever documents he was meant to find but with one step out of place, he triggered the alarm to the house and police were at the scene only moments later—before danny could escape.
he was seventeen at the time, thankful, and he was able to appeal to a court. his mother was distraught and his father had a look of disappointment and would not even listen to danny’s side of the story when it came down to it. he went to the limit with his family’s patience and though sadie was grateful to be out of the hands of the other gang, she was still scared. danny tried to get her talk about what happened but she would not speak a word of it, just shaking her head and asking for the topic to be changed. danny continued to push and push though, needing her to speak infront of the court in order to testify but in the end, he decided not to push her and took his punishment. he was sent to a detention facility not too far off the border of south carolina, in it’s neighboring state of north carolina. he was meant to be there for two years but when he turned eighteen, the boy was given an option. it seemed that the state of south carolina was trying an experiment with young boys, taking them into broken homes and letting them care for another. danny took the option almost instantly, not liking the idea of being put into the penal system in a real jailhouse. the court agreed that it would be best but he was warned that he was not to step out of bounds again or jail is where he would go.
danny hates the idea of being away from his mother and father but they have sent his sister to live with him as well, and this new person who he will be taking care of. sadie seems to be adjusting to the life in myrtle beach better than her brother as danny resents the idea of even having to do this when all he was doing was protecting his little sister. the two of them are close, and danny is overbearing and overprotective but after everything that happened, it seems that there is some kind of understanding there. he is trying not to fall back into his old ways, breathing when he gets mad and counting to ten when he wants to hit something, drugs are hard for him to stay away from but the alcohol keeps calling to him as well. he’s struggling, not to make it through this life but to make himself be good. he’s was always a good kid, ask his mother but he went down the wrong path due to the only influences that surrounded him. high school changed him, juvenile detention changed him and he is changing for the better, one step at a time.
