[style=font-family: helvetica; font-size: 13px; letter-spacing: 6px; text-transform: uppercase; text-align: center;]PEPPER FULL NAME: ryleigh samantha giroux ALIAS: ryleigh or leigh DATE OF BIRTH: 18/12/94 AGE: 17 OCCUPATION: high school student SEXUALITY: heterosexual PLAY BY: ebba zingmark HIGHSCHOOLER [style=background-color: #5a667e; border: 10px solid #5a667e; font-family: georgia; letter-spacing: 10px; color: white; text-align: center;]all about me to most of the world, at first glance, it seemed like there was absolutely nothing abnormal with the young redhead walking into the school office for a meeting with a guidance counsellor. her steps were slower than some, perhaps, and her head was turned at a slight angle as though listening for something specific (which was, in fact, the case). her hands were held slightly in front of her at her waist, making sure that she didn't bump into anything, and if she was more than a step in front of her mother, who closely followed behind her, the girl would pause to let the woman keep up because her presence stopped her from straying off course. [/style]finally, safely inside the office, the new student gripped a chair and sat down, her mother stayed outside the room and closed the door while the counsellor took a seat across the desk. "welcome to the school, miss giroux." "ryleigh, please." the girl smiled warmly, eyes unfocused, staring off against the wall as unseeing as they had been for over a year. "ryleigh." the counsellor nodded, not that the girl could see. and shifted through the file on her desk. "you're entering the school year a bit late, aren't you? what made you decide to come to myrtle beach this year?" "my father grew up here. he moved away when he was twelve, but he loved it so much that it was the obvious place to come when my old school proved to be... unadaptable. it took time to move and for my parents to adjust their jobs, therefore my not arriving until the end of october." "unadaptable?" "the students, though i'd grown up with them, couldn't seem to adjust to my new, er... circumstances. some weren't kind, some just felt too awkward around me to interact at all. it was decided that it would be best for me if i went somewhere else for my final year of high school. the university here was one of my top choices for next year, anyway." "if you don't mind me asking, could you explain a bit more about your injury?" "of course." the warm smile didn't waver. speaking of such things had occurred too often to visibly affect her now. "i'm blind. according to the doctors, short of a miracle, i will be for the rest of my life. almost seven months after my sixteenth birthday, the summer before last, i was out driving alone in my new vehicle, and a semi ran a red light. my car flipped many times and crashed into a nearby ditch. i was in a coma for over a month, and when i woke i couldn't see anything. thankfully everything but my eyes healed well. it wasn't looking good for a while, but here i am." "that must have been terrifying." a slight laugh trilled past the girl's lips, head turning to the sound of the counsellor's voice. "of course it was. it would have been for anyone. but there was nothing i could have done to prevent it. i've just learned to deal with the consequences. it doesn't limit me as much as some might think." "oh?" "no. i can still find my way around fairly well... though in unfamiliar places it helps to have someone around to guide me, and if all else fails i can use my cane, though i prefer not to carry it around. i can't drive, of course, but i can still use a computer through a program installed that reads pages to me and translates my words into typed words on the page for school assignments. with a bit of help at times i can cook, and little else has changed. it could have been a lot worse. i'm lucky." "you're a very positive person, aren't you?" "some might say that. i prefer to think of it as appreciating life. too many people take what they have for granted." "you said that you planned on going to university. is that still the case?" "of course. i might have a few more difficulties than some others would, but i still want to live my life." "what do you want to do?" "i'd wanted to be an optometrist." another small laugh. "ironic, isn't it? now i've changed my plans to becoming a psychologist. but i guess i still have a year to go, so my plans could change." "i see. well, if you ever need help planning for next year, there are many staff members at the school who will be more than glad to help you." "thank you very much. is there anything else you need from me?" "no, that should be all. thank you for your time, miss gir- ryleigh." another smile was given as the girl rose to her feet, turning herself to the sound of the door as her mother opened it. "you're very welcome." |
