She’s late but you were warned that she probably would be. Just as you’re giving up hope, the sound of heels clicking on the sleek black floor brings your attention up. In front of you is a tall, leggy young woman with a bright smile. She extends her hand and introduces herself as Annabelle Rosen, the woman you’ve been waiting for. You take her hand, giving her a firm handshake and returning the smile, asking that she have a seat in the chair across from you. [/style]”Thank you for coming Miss Rosen.” You said politely, looking down at your list of interview questions and back up at her. ”I hope your journey was painless.” You say with a smile before getting started. ”Miss Rosen” but she cuts you off by leaning forward some and placing a hand on your knee. ”Please call me Belle.” She said simply in that soft tone of hers. You nod, looking at her over your glasses for a brief minute before looking back down at your notebook. ”Belle, tell me about yourself.” You can’t help but smile a little as she makes a face, wrinkling her nose and her eyes roll up to look at a point behind you as she thinks. ”Well, my name is Annabelle Rosen. I was born in Paradise, California and I’m terrible about talking about myself.” She responds, laughing some. ”That’s why I’m here.” You laugh. ”What about your family? Do you have any?” She lights up a bit at the mention of her family and nods enthusiastically. ”Yes. I’ve actually got quite a big family, at least by most people’s standards. I think.” She says, making a face as she rambles a little. ”Who all is in your family?” She bites her lip and considers this for a moment. ”Well I only know my mother’s side of the family. My immediate family is my mom and my brother but we’re very close with my uncle and his family.” ”Tell me about your mother and your brother.” ”Well, my mother’s name is Sophie Kingsley. She’s forty-six now and she’s never been married. She got pregnant at sixteen with my brother and then again with me twelve years later. My mom is sort of my inspiration. She’s always so kind and caring to everyone around her. A lot of that has to do with the fact that if anyone speaks back to her or is rude to her, they answer to the men in my family. My brother’s name is Benjamin Rosen. He was named after my uncle but we all call him Benji to keep from getting confused. Benji’s always tried to be a good big brother but he’s a lot like our father. He tries to be good but sometimes, he just can’t. One time he and our cousin, Finn, were drinking and Finn’s little brother came to get them and somehow, Cole ended up in a coma. Finn and Benji walked away from the accident just fine. He also got addicted to cocaine right about then. I was ten years old at the time.” She pauses, chewing on her lip some. ”And what about your father?” ”Well, my father’s name is Jace Rosen. He was twenty-two when he knocked up my mom and when she told him about the baby, he took off. When my mother was six months pregnant, he came back and Uncle Ben and him got into a fight which stressed my mama out to the point that she started to go into labor. ”You mentioned you’re close to your uncle’s family too? Tell me about them.” ”Well my uncle Ben has always taken amazing care of my mom and our family. After his best friend got my mom pregnant when she was sixteen and he was twenty-two, Uncle Ben had to quit his job as a mechanic and find better work since he was supporting his own family and my mom’s. They moved from Fire Island, New York to Paradise, California and my uncle started selling sculptures and doing a little singing. Both took off pretty well and he was able to support the family. My Aunt Lexie had a tough few years there for a while. Her family moved from Dublin when she was fourteen after her mother passed away and then at sixteen, she fell in love with my uncle. They dated despite the age difference and the night she gave her virginity to him, his father nearly killed my mom and grandma so he took off for the US without saying goodbye. Three years later, they both ended up in Fire Island and they fell in love all over again. Ben ended up leaving his current girlfriend for Aunt Lexie and soon asked her to marry him. Shortly after that, she was raped and became pregnant with my cousin Finn. I’m not supposed to know this but she thought he was the rapist’s child and it turned out, he was uncle Ben’s all along. Finn’s always been her favorite because of that. Now Finn was born six months after Benji and the two of them were the best of friends, still are. They might as well be brothers. When Finn was eighteen, he started dating this French girl. It was only for the summers when she’d visit and then they went back to being single people. She was only fourteen so they had to keep their relationship quiet but for her eighteenth birthday, he flew over to Paris and they decided to be a full time couple. He brought her back with him once she finished school and the two haven’t been apart since. Cole was always the nerdy one. He’s five years younger than Finn and as I mentioned before, he was put into a coma when he was sixteen because Benji was drunk driving. Cole was always smaller than his brother or cousin and such a bookworm so people tried to pick on him but Finn and Benji never let that happen, especially after the accident. I think Benji became as protective over Cole as he’s always been over me. Poor Cole hasn’t really found love yet because, well, it’s hard to get a girl’s attention when you have Benji and Finn around. And then there is my favoritist person in the whole world!” She say excitedly, lighting up and squirming in her seat and little, leaning forward as she talks. ”My cousin Sadie and I were born on the same day, which is also my mother’s birthday, and we were raised together. She’s my absolute bestest best friend. We’ve done everything worth doing together. From sleepovers to dances and we even moved across the country together. She’s the greatest even if she doesn’t approve of my driving. She thinks I drive too fast.” She laughed and rolled her eyes. ”Do you drive too fast?” You ask amused. ”Not really. I mean, I drive faster than most the people around be but I still drive safely.” You nod, chuckling some. ”So Annabelle, what has your love life been like.” She laughs heartily as if you told a good joke. ”Ask me on a date and you’ll see.” She replies to your confused expression. ”My brother isn’t really one for letting his baby sister date. Especially since he was a man whore and still can be sometimes. Benji and Finn do a good job not letting guys get too close but there have been a couple of guys but nothing serious. I think my longest relationship was like a month and a half. Pretty sad huh?” ”So, is it safe to say your virginity is intact?” You ask hesitantly, afraid you may offend her. ”Very much so.” She nods, unperturbed by your questioning. ”See this ring?” She asks, holding out her left hand where a simple ring is wrapped around her ring finger ( click ) ”On mine and Sadie’s thirteenth birthday, he took us to dinner, say us down and talked to us about boys and then he gave us these. We’ve promised to be pure until we find the right guy. He says he understands that in this day and age, saving sex till marriage is very difficult thing to do and nearly unreasonable and that he can’t preach what he didn’t practice but that we should save ourselves for the right men to come along. And we have.” She says, pulling her hand back and twisting the ring a little, smiling. You open your mouth to speak but are cut short by the alarm on your phone going off. ”You seem like a truly lovely girl, Annabelle.” You say as you silence your phone and stand up. ”I look forward to seeing you again around Myrtle Beach.” And with that, she turns and leaves and your gaze follows till she disappears through the door she entered in without so much as a glance back. |
