born to die come and take a walk on the wild side let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain you like your girls insane choose your last words this is the last time cause you and i we were born to die ryker wasn't the type of guy - or person, for that matter, since he doubted only males could be as stubborn as him - to tuck his tail between his legs and run away at the first sight of danger, albeit the danger that faced him now was a hurricane hitting the east coast. honestly, if ryker was feeling anything, it was anger. go figure, right? being angry at inanimate objects wasn't new for ry, however. don't get him wrong, he absolutely loved storms -- it was when the storms closed his current project down until further notice, which could be god knows how long, that he began hating them. suppose that's what he got for acquiring a job that usually required somewhat bearable weather, but he wasn't thinking that way currently. what he was thinking about was how stupid everyone was acting at the grocery store he managed to drive himself to, despite the warning that everyone should stay indoors and wait the storm out or evacuate, ryker decided to do just the opposite. the weather wasn't too bad outside, and since he knew it was going to only get worse, he decided now was as good a time as any to get whatever the hell he needed and get home, and it seemed that not too many people had the same idea, because as soon as he walked into the grocery store, he saw a handful of people picking the shelves for whatever was left.
after grabbing himself a cart, ryker managed to find himself one of the last few remaining pack things of water - the rest of which remained were all on the top shelf, high out of reach for anyone that was vertically challenged. ry was about to move on down the aisle, but something, or rather, someone was in his way. he cleared his throat and looked up at the blonde, arching a brow inquisitively. "you're uh.. kind of in my way. excuse me." he said, trying to sound as polite as possible, although politeness wasn't something that often passed through ryker's mind. it was a stressing time for anyone, and he could relate to that. the last thing anyone would need is some asshole being asshole-ish to them.

throughout the whole journey to the grocery store, marinelle had been grumbling angrily under her breath. she loved her roommates to death, but really, they were way too wimpy for her liking. her parents were already paying for their apartment's rent. was it really that much to ask them to go out to the store to stock up on some groceries and water? it was just a storm. it wasn't like the sky was falling down or anything. she wasn't asking them to stop the storm or anything. it was just some food for survival. but no, they couldn't even get past their room door before quivering back into a corner like some sad pathetic puppy. really, she just wanted to shove one of them out the door and force them to go get the supplies, but then that would make her heartless. and while she was many things, heartless was not one of them. she may occasionally act like a princess and, at times, act like a complete bitch, but it was probably for a good reason. still, she wished they were less spineless. it wasn't that she didn't want to go get the supplies because she really didn't mind, but none of them were exactly proper material to help one another survive a storm. whatever. it would have to do. they nicknamed her no-fear-mare for a reason. they always told her she wasn't normal due to the fact that nothing scares her. in fact, when danger called, she dove head first into it. which was why every time they were afraid of something, she would be the girl they turned to. maybe that's why she was so much closer to guys than she was with girls. she was one of them. tomboy in every essence of the word except for how she dressed.
she sighed, shaking her head as she trudged through the windy weather and into the local grocery store. it seemed like everyone had a similar idea. too bad for them, marinelle was known to be a superb shopper. she was quick and flexible. cheerleading and karate definitely paid off. not to mention the tackle football with the guys. it helped her with avoiding the flustered mothers. she grabbed a basket and made her way up and down the aisles, throwing in some necessities like cans of food, rope, and other random thing she thought would be useful. she stopped short at the big packs of water bottles at the top of the shelf and blew at her bangs, annoyed. of course, the rest only remained at the top of the shelves... where short people like her whom were only five foot could not possibly reach. she was off in her own world, too busy trying to figure out how she'd land herself one to pay attention to whoever was around her. she jumped when a voice was heard next to her. she glanced at him and then back up at the water, "only if you help me get one too or you give me a hand up."

born to die come and take a walk on the wild side let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain you like your girls insane choose your last words this is the last time cause you and i we were born to die ryker could totally call it. he could call that he'd come across some hot chick like this at the super market and wind up having to help her sooner or later. okay, well.. maybe that wasn't necessarily the case, but he was close enough. or maybe that was just the nagging voice in his head that spoke up whenever he saw any blonde. they were always his favorite, or so he noticed, anyways. he wasn't really picky about his girls, though. they all fucked and left the same when you got real technical - which was something ryker did a lot of. he was the brooding, look into every single thing and over analyze everything kind of guy. that's just who he was.
he cocked a smile and tilted his head slightly, shooting the girl a curious look. "sucks being a midget, doesn't it?" he teased, reaching up and getting a case of water and then placing it in her cart. he did a short bow before taking a step back. "well, there you go." he muttered, turning on his heel and attending to his own cart. his phone busied him for a little while longer - it was one of the guys he had worked with ever since he got the job at the company. he was freaking out, as per usual, about the hurricane. he had already asked him seven million times why he wasn't already at the convention center. ryker just wasn't like that at all, though. he didn't like showing weakness or following orders, especially if he saw no sense in that.
and really, he saw no sense in evacuating. it was just a storm, it would blow over in a few days. and that's why he wasn't leaving. simple as that.
plus, he did get to meet a hot chick out of all of this, didn't he? maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.
maybe thinking that things were okay was jinxing it, or maybe ryker was just having a bad run in with luck - whatever the case, today just was not his day, whether he believed in all of that superstitious stuff or not. he wasn't all too sure what was happening - all he could remember in that split second was the sound of glass shattering and his body colliding with the body of the girl he had spoken to only a moment ago. he felt something hit the back of his head, causing him to grunt and roll onto his side, leaving the girl vulnerable, which must've, at the time he dodged and covered her from the falling tree, been the exact opposite of what he had wanted to do. he quickly looked over at her before reaching up to the back of his head and leaving it there, not entirely sure if he wanted to look to see if there was any blood.
"you okay?" he managed, his voice choked and weary. he still wasn't entirely with it - all he was hoping at the moment was that he didn't just completely fail at doing something heroic.

[atrb=border,0,true]hurt by some, i'm all caged up with nowhere to run
she had always known she was pretty. not that she was trying to be self absorbed or anything. but it was just the truth. guys who only knew her name only knew her by her looks. they saw golden blonde hair that practically resembled a greek goddess. they saw a slim athletic body from all the cheerleading and sports. they knew of her through the rumours after a good night of partying. but her real guy friends saw someone different. they saw beyond her beauty. they saw a girl who lazed around on sundays to pig out on pizza and soft drinks while playing video games and watching horror movies. they saw a girl who was competitive and strong. they saw a girl who might as well be a guy in a girl body. she knew that if it weren't for the fact that she was the definition of a fine woman, the guys would have definitely mistaken her for a boy. but even girls like her had her insecurities and flaws. boy did she know she was not perfect. for one, she knew she did not look her age. she looked like she was a twelve year old kid, and her height did little to help the fact. not that she really had a problem with her height. it was just more of a love/hate relationship. and currently, she was on the hate side with her five foot nothing stature. normally, she wouldn't have a problem because the aisles were usually stacked with stock, but on this particular day, where everyone was panicking like it was the end of the fucking world, everything that was within reach was gone, leaving her with everything that was out of reach.
lucky for her, there was actually someone around her who was willing to help. it did help that the person came in the form of a very rugged and good looking man. boy? no, not boy. a boy couldn't possibly look half as good as the one standing before her. it was almost possible not to be completely smitten with him upon first sight. especially when he smiled like that at her. she chuckled at his teasing, shaking her head, "not at all. this is how i get people to do things for me." she replied with a smirk before stepping aside so he could get a better access to the case of water bottles. she let her eyes travel against every contour of his muscular arms before forcing herself to look away when he started to turn towards her car with the pack of water bottles. she chuckled, rolling her eyes at his bow, "thanks" she muttered back. she took a glance out the glass windows, eye catching sight of the strong winds. a shiver went tingling up and down her spine. it was well known among every one of her friends that nothing scared this girl. she was always taking risks and living life to its fullest. she loved the thrill and the way it made her heart race. but if there was one thing that absolutely scared her shitless, it was thunderstorms. not that this blonde would every admit it. of course, it was one her deepest, darkest secret. the only people who knew about this fear were her family- whom were currently on the other side of america. she didn't know where she developed this irrational fear, but every time there was a thunderstorm, you can bet your ass that marinelle would be literally frozen with fear, curled into a ball, and quivering like a wet puppy.
she busied herself with grabbing the other necessities. when she looked up again, her eyes widened in fear as a squeal escaped her lips while she watched the tree fall towards them. she didn't have the time to move away because in the next second, as the tree crashed through the glass windows, the guy she had been talking to earlier had collided right against her, shielding her from most of the impact before he rolled off her. she threw her arms up, shielding her face from the debris and the pieces of falling glass. there was too much adrenaline in her at the moment to notice the scratches on her arms or that her ankle was twisted in a funny way. she glanced at the stranger, nodding shakily, "y-yeah.... i.... i think so. a-are you?"
