meet holland, but she appreciates to be called holly and not named after the country. holly is a sixteen year old sophomore with a knack for history, business and english. her grades are iffy but her social life is buzzing and it's what seems to be more important to her than anything. she is the kind of girl that has a cellphone attached to her hand and is constantly tweeting, texting or facebook updating. she has an emotional side and a bit of an attitude but the spot on the cheerleading squad allows people to look past her mostly queen bee attitude and see how beautiful she is. she is materialistic and selfish, she has a huge vengeful side and has recently been cheated on. the girl's life has never really been under the microscope and she has had the freedom to do what she wants as growing up in myrtle beach has given her some sense of independence but she is still close to her family no matter how unfair she thinks they are.

/OPEN open pb, sixteen or seventeen, geek, aspiring director, sweetheart, caring, possible final the male is given the chance of a lifetime to participate in a film contest. the point of the film is to look at life through the "other side" and of course, he figures the opposite of him is a selfish, cheerleader who has a solid social life and whose grades are lacking. he is a bit of a geek and is perfectly okay with that. he is happy with who he is and for the project, he approaches the newest cheerleader, holly. he has to kind of bribe her to do it but eventually, she gives in and he has to follow her around--learning more about who she is. he learns that there is more to this girl than her gucci bag and trustfund. she is caring, she is sweet, she is a good cook and he begins to develop a crush on her while...naturally, she is doing the same. she wants nothing to do with him at first, calling him her "fan" but eventually, he becomes her friend. but he's filming a lot of moments of her life, including the difference between who she is at school and who she is at home--two very different people. the beginning of the film was meant to more show what a brat she was in real life and it accurately portrays that but then it starts to diverge into their friendship and how much of a human she actually is.
after following her around for nearly two months, he has to stop and begins to edit the movie together. and when the premiere comes, everyone is there--her parents, his parents, friends, family, strangers who don't know her and the movie reveals....everything. holly watches only the first five minutes or so, the beginning where she is nothing but a spoiled brat and boy is devasated, running after her. they get into an argument and she explains how much he made her look like a monster and she runs off in tears. it takes her friends to make her watch the rest of the movie in the upcoming days, eventually tricking her and allowing her to see that he showed all of her, not just the monster side.
