He always said it and she always shooed him out the door telling him he was being ridiculous. He couldn’t help it though, it was the manners his mother taught him that made him have to say thank you every time. She was really doing him a big favor since he would have to pay a sitter and find someone he trusted if he didn’t have her and his dad to watch over Caroline when he had to work. His parents he knew he could trust since they’d raised him and he turned out perfectly fine right? Right. Heading away from the house already dressed for work and in the cruiser he knew he needed to go check in and clock in as well before going on duty and resisted the urge to flip the lights and get a little speed on getting there. Driving fast was a bad habit he kept in check since with his job it was too easy to abuse the ability to do it without getting in trouble. Pulling up to the station and into his normal spot after driving at the legal speed he headed inside clocking in and moving to check on paperwork and things that he needed to get done or help with. He hated paperwork, left it till the last minute even though he knew he shouldn’t and often just took it home with him to fill out instead of doing it at a desk during working hours. He just had to be careful with that since Caro didn’t always understand the difference between “drawing paper” and “daddy’s paperwork” so he kept it safely on top of his dresser in his room where she couldn’t reach until he started actually working on it. Today the stack was pretty small and he’d need to stop back at the station again to take it with him to finish and get done before it piled up into more than just a small stack. Heading back out he drove around myrtle beach keeping an eye out for anything he’d need to deal with an responding to any calls coming in that he could get to in a reasonable time. Even if they were a little out of the “recommended range” he’d sometimes call in that he had it because with his lights flashing he could get there at double speed just as fast as anyone closer would. He knew the streets and the area well and used that to his advantage while working since getting where you were going was a lot easier when you knew the short cuts or just made shortcuts for yourself. Toward the end of the shift he found himself parked along one of the roads known for being a speeding trap. He couldn’t figure out why if people knew it was a speed-trap they kept speeding through the area but he hadn’t pulled over Mr. Johnson for awhile so he hoped at least one person had learned the lesson. He sipped his coffee as he checked the speeds of the cars going by and glanced at the clock to see how much time he had left. About a half hour at most before he was officially off duty so he figured he should at least start heading back toward the station to get there with time to gather the paperwork from before and the nights paperwork to take home and fill out. Setting his empty cup into the holder he was getting ready to pull out and head back when a car sped past going fast enough he didn’t even need to check it because it was clearly above the posted limit. A smirk twisting his lips he flipped his lights and siren before he pulled out putting the pedal down on his own squad car as he raced after the speeder. It was a good way to end a shift he supposed, getting to put a little speed on and then hand out a ticket for the person he was after. If he was unlucky the person would have a warrant or something that would mean having to take them in and fill out another chunk of paperwork. He was hoping luck was on his side tonight though since he wanted to go pick up Caro and head home. Pulling up behind the fast moving car he let the lights and siren announce his intent and waited to see if they’d pull over or cause problems like…a high speed chase? He didn’t mind either way, he’d get them in the end.

the rush that she felt on the road was nothing compared to the rush that she felt when she was able to sneak out of her house behind her brother’s back, regardless of how aware he was of his sister’s day job. he was her guardian in this case as her father would have never allowed her to leave the trailer unless she had her brother to protect her, not that desiree even needed protection. her body felt like lead, her eyes were drooping as she walked out of the restaurant after having locked up and turned all the lights off. closing shift was the worse but it did give her time to be a little more spontaneous and dance around with a broom in her hands while she sang along to the radio. her body was instantly uplifted, the exhaustion leaving her body as soon as her own car came into sight. beautiful, sleek and a birthday present from her family, it often got stares as she drove down the street with her tinted windows rolled up and her speedometer going high above the speed limit. the girl had the natural instinct for speed, and had her own self-control to maneuver the car at high speeds. she blamed her father for most of it, but her brother had some help in influencing the girl to be more or less, a fast driver. she could have very well gone into the same lane as her father, done the legal thing and win money that way but it was not thrilling for her. desiree was always looking for a rush without needing to have string attached and street racing gave her that very thing. dropping her purse onto the cooled off bonnet, she searched her bag for the keys, shuffling papers, bandaids, make up kits and other things around to just listen for the jingle of the keys. ”just fucking had them..”

[/b] she cursed outloud, finally tapping a palm to her forehead as the realization of where she had placed the keys came to mind. reaching into her skirt pocket, a piece of her uniform that she hated, desiree palmed the keys and opened the door, tossing her bag to the side and slipping into the front seat.

her fingers ran across the leather exterior, her fingers palming the gear shift as desiree was not going to have an automatic control change her shift. if she wanted to be in third gear, then that was exactly the shift that she was going to be in. shifting the gear stick, her car purred to life as she started off slow when backing out of her spot, cautious about backing up as it was a flaw with the girl’s driving. she was able to turn, drift but have her backup at nearly two hundred miles an hour and she would break a sweat then. slowly turning the wheel, getting a feel for the leather once more as though the material was foreign to her as she had been in a restaurant for nearly nine hours instead of being inside of her car. it was only a positive outlook to the idea of being a legal racer, but where was the fun in that? as soon as her car was positioned, she slammed her foot down on the gas, spinning the steering wheel to make her way around the small bends of the parking lot before her car emerged out of the parking building and she took off down the road. her eyes shined as she watched the speedometer increase slowly but she hardly got twenty above the speed limit before lights flashed in her rearview mirror and her eyes narrowed, her hands slamming down on the wheel, ”dammit! mother …”[/b]. she growled out what would have been the curse word, looking at the straight road ahead and then her wheel quickly turned down a side street.

she gave him a small run, letting her skills show thoroughly before finally deciding to give up the chase. the idea of being arrested and having to call kenneth, her brother, was not an appealing idea. her car’s speed slowed down, her eyes rolling as she watched the speedometer dial lower, moving further and further down until the car was parked into idle and she rolled her window down. desiree had enough tickets under her name, paid for, but the offenses were still there and so, the girl knew the drill. reaching into the glove compartment, she took out her registration and went to her wallet to get her license before turning to look at the police officer at the window. she was slightly shocked by the attractiveness of the police officer , ”I know the dril, everything you need is here.”[/b], all identification placed between her middle finger and her index finger, a spot where a cigarette would have been if she had been given the chance to light one. ”but I guess I was going just a wee bit too fast..”[/b], a smirk rising to her lips before her eyes turned up to meet his, giving him a wink.

The chase was the reason he loved his part of his job sometimes because when you caught one going this fast you could bet it would be fun keeping up with them and a chance to get your own speed legally which was always a plus. Getting the read-back on the car and it’s driver he rolled his eyes a little at the prior tickets though it was good they were all paid but the number of them indicated that the woman would be sent to traffic court soon and put into one of those “safe driving” classes if she wasn’t careful. The way she handled the car at the high speeds told him she was probably one of the most careful drivers out there but that didn’t matter when you were breaking speed limits and getting caught for it. He knew the love of fast driving but he also knew safety came first and being a lot more careful about it than this woman had been so far tonight and in her past if the tickets were any indicator. He was about to call it in as “evading” and suggest backup be considered purely for the safety of anyone else out on the road when the speeds they were moving at began to drop and he tossed the thought in a mental garbage bin not needing help when no one was at risk. As her car pulled to a stop he pulled his own up behind it and considered leaving the door open for a half a second. It was easier to get in and go if they took off if your door was already open. The fact that there were priors on her record though told him he could probably trust her not to pull a pause and run on him so he closed the door as he got out and made his way up to the drivers side seeing the window down already and she had all he was going to ask for prepared for him before he even had to ask. Taking the offered documentation of her license and registration he looked both over before glancing back up at her lifting an eyebrow. ”A bit yeah…” he answered quickly cataloging the beauty of the woman in the car with sharp cops eyes that missed nothing. The woman hadn’t been what he expected since he’d expected one of the more butch types of women to be sitting behind the wheel. It was a good surprise to find he’d been wrong in this case and he began filling out the ticket. ”Well since you said you know the drill then you already know you’re getting a ticket for that wee bit of too fast you were doing while driving.” he said casually and glanced up at her again over his work considering a moment. Getting it half filled out he glanced back down at the device in his hands and cleared his throat, ”You’re getting a bit of advice as well since it just seems to me like you could use it with the tickets I hit on when I called this in.” he added as he finished writing but didn’t hand anything back to her yet. ”Too many of these tickets you get sent to traffic court where either you pay a bigger fine which doesn’t happen that often but what does happen often is the other side of that either. Safe driving classes that will remind you of the laws of the road and how to follow them and drive like a nervous grandma. You don’t seem unsafe on the roads to me since you handled the car well even at speed.” he said seriously and hit finish on the ticket so it would print out for him to give to her. ”What I’m suggesting is find a dirt road somewhere or a road that doesn’t get traffic, hell ask to use the track if you know someone who works there or something and get it out of your system that way to avoid having to pay fine after fine and waste your time in a class you don’t really need except to remind you that you are in fact subject to the laws for things like speeding. You already seem to know and expect this outcome so do yourself a favor and avoid the class you’ll be bored to tears in alright?” he said knowing it was a 50/50 on whether she’d actually take his advice or not. He didn’t commonly hand out advice like that, but when people seemed to be the sort who’d repeatedly break a law sometimes a little advice instead of just “bad person you. You can’t do this” worked best. Telling people they’re doing wrong isn’t giving them a way to fix the problem it’s just letting them know they’re wrong. Giving advice he hoped would maybe get her to at least consider finding a different way to avoid the trouble of lawbreaking instead of continuing to do it and never learning the right from wrong lesson in this situation. Holding out the ticket and her paperwork and license he waited for her to take it and hoped maybe he’d not have to pull her over and hand anymore tickets through her window in the future. Then again maybe he would and they’d end up being the sort who asked “so how’s the family” after awhile since you got to know a person when you were constantly pulling them over he’d been told by one of the old guys who’d trained him.

desiree could not hide the smirk that formed on her lips as her eyes followed the car in her rearview mirror, driving like an idiot as she made random turns, speeding up and slowing down and finally the lights started to flash. the smirk faded and desiree realized that she probably should slow down as not to have given the wrong idea as she was not trying to run away from the police officer, she was just racing him and he was able to keep up but the games had to end and she slowed her car down as she pulled off to the side of the road. she sat there, turning her key to idle the car as to keep the gas reserve from getting any lower. her fingers tapped on the steering wheel while she waited, the sound of the police car door closing was her indicator as she slowly began to roll her window down with a press of a button. she was slightly surprised by the male that had caught her speeding and came along for the small ride, he was actually quite attractive. it was rare for her to find an attractive cop and she was not going to let this moment slip away. teetering on the edge of pulling away as fast as she could with the sudden rush of adrenaline that had her gripping the steering wheel but she kept her hands steady and her feet off the pedle and grinned, handing him the indentification that would be required for her small indiscretion in the rules of the road—not that she obeyed many rules anyway and the amount of tickets under her name were an good indicator of that. ”just a little, not too much…sir

[/b] she said, pursing her lips as she looked over to him as he checked over all the documents that had been handed to him. ”figured as much, it’s part of the drill. i hand you the documents and you give me a ticket and then we part ways..”[/b] at least, that was what was to be expected.

her eyebrow raised fully, arching as he continued to speak and she blinked for a moment. the only people that she really listened to would be those in her family and her own conscience and she was currently going against her instincts to take the ticket and go without a lecture. ”well that’s a twist in the story..”[/b] she mumbled, tilting her head and tried to act interested in what he was saying. she had to force respect to be shown, not rolling her eyes and keeping eye contact no matter what. some parts caused her to chuckle and readjust herself in the seat as she unstrapped her seatbelt from her body and she slowly pulled herself out of the car through the window. ”the bitch gets stuck sometimes.”[/b] she said, dusting herself off including pulling her skirt back down. ”that was great advice officer…”[/b], she squinted her eyes, leaning forward to peer at his badge, ”garrison. really, I’m glad to know the rules of the road and I actually do know them backwards and forwards. I did get a license and I grew up with a nascar racer, plus I live with another. I know how to handle a car better than most of the guys around here.”[/b] she said with a nod before looking down at the ticket that was being written out and took it, reading it over, ”but what’s the fun in that officer?”[/b] she asked with a raised eyebrow.

her steps took her to the heated bonnet of her car, leaning against it and crossing her ankles while her hand searched in her bra for a wad of cash that she received in tips that night. ”before you jump to conclusions, don’t call me a hooker or a stripper..”[/b], flipping a few of the bills out of the clip and reading the ticket over once more. ”I got a better idea..”[/b] she said, tucking the money back into her bra and standing up straighter. her eyes searched the streets that surrounded them, empty and quiet, ”when does your shift end? cause..if not yet, we can stand here and wait for it, where you don’t have to have the stick up your ass and we can have a little fun.”[/b], the ticket was folded and placed in the same spot as her money before she let out a low whistle. ”so since I know your last name, I’m kennedy.”[/b] she grinned, not holding her hand out but glancing at the watch on her wrist, listening to the invisible ticking of the second hand. ”so here is what I propose..”[/b], stepping back from the car after giving the hood a good pat, ”a race for my ticket being void for tonight…winner, well, if I win, this ticket..”[/b], pulling it out from her bra, folded and inbetween her two fingers which were just itching for a cigarette, ”gets nulled. if you win, you pick your prize.”[/b] she said, tucking the ticket away once more before swinging her keys around on her finger. her car was a racer, it was built for it and it helped her when she really needed the advantage in those tricky street races that were located just out of the city.

sure, the girl could have done it the legal way but she found the same scenery over and over again to be boring. she did not want to stare at cement while racing around one track with a handful of racers. she wanted one on one, or at least a small amount of competition and a more scenic route and that was why the girl chose speed racing in the illegal sense. she was in a circuit and she was known, desiree’s mouth and her sore winning had conjured up enemies and rivals but she had made friends and even gotten a night or two out of some of the good looking racers. it was a fun scene for the girl and she was ready to put her money where her mouth was, see if the illegal racer had the skills that were par with a man of the law. holding out her hand, she raised an eyebrow to him, ”deal?”[/b] she asked with a smirk on her face and confidence in her voice.

Either way it wouldn’t matter because he could and would keep up with her and she’d get yet another ticket in the end. Pausing his own thoughts a moment he focused on the way they were driving now with her leading the dance and him following her steps. It seemed more like a game instead of a chase, like she was just having fun with it not trying to actually get away. He was proven right when she finally pulled over and he couldn’t help but shake his head a tiny bit amused by that though he shouldn’t be. Approaching the car and taking in the woman who’d been playing with him in the little chase he would admit to being surprised by her good looks but he was never the kind of cop swayed by them. Girls flirting was a part of his life, not in a cocky “I’m so great” kind of way but in the “it just happens I’m used to it” kind of way. He learned that they’d try flirting with anyone to get out of a ticket and his experience in flirting women paid off in being able to ignore it or at least stick to the point of them breaking laws while flirting back instead of getting distracted or being swayed to “forget about it” when they did it. He nodded to her words about the “drill” of how it went with things and shook his head, ”You have plenty of experience with this particular drill according to your record of tickets.” he commented lightly not being insulting just stating a fact…or that’s what he’d claim if she ever reported him for it. He somehow didn’t get the impression she was that type of girl though, but it wouldn’t be the first time he’d been wrong about that. Old ladies, some of them had damned good hearing and didn’t appreciate “sass” even when it wasn’t to them but they thought it was. He would forever have it on his record that Mrs. Watkins had been offended by his snarky comment about people who caused problems just to annoy cops. The thing was he’d been mumbling to himself about some kids on the sidewalk calling out rude comments and making gestures he wanted to arrest them for but weren’t exactly illegal so he couldn’t take any action at all. Did that matter to Mrs. Watkins though? Not a bit. She heard it and thought it was to her which equaled something for the guys to tease him about till the day he retired. His advice was the best he could do for this woman beyond giving her a ticket that got her a step closer to traffic court. With advice it was a matter of giving it and letting them decide what to do with it because people could choose to listen or ignore. As long as he knew he’d at least told them and that was what counted in his opinion and that’s what he’d done. Hearing her mumbled comment he didn’t comment on it because it was true. Most people didn’t realize that sure you could get your tickets and pay them and that solved the problem temporarily but too many added up meant more action was taken to make the point. They just thought the tickets were all they had to worry about. Normally he didn’t correct that thinking because those getting tickets were unsafe to be behind the wheel but as he’d said she seemed to handle the car well. Stepping back as she pulled herself out of the car through the window he resisted the urge to reach for his weapon as he’d been trained. She didn’t seem a threat but he was prepared for whatever was going to come and you honestly just couldn’t tell with some people in truth. ”You didn’t have to get out of the car.” he said in a hint that she shouldn’t have gotten out of the car without being asked since he was pretty sure someone who knew “the drill” should know that as well. Listening to her as she spoke not providing his name but knowing she’d find it on the badge she was peering at he waited to see what she had to say that required her climbing out of the car. Hearing her talk about knowing the rules backward and forward then mentioning her connections to nascar racers he gave her a bland look not impressed or whatever she’d expected him to be. ”Have fun kicking your friends asses on a track then not the streets around people who could get hurt. I’m not saying you’d cause that problem but if I had a nickel for every time I heard a story about someone who drove of the road, every kid who got ideas, or every person distracted enough to wreck their own car because of seeing someone else driving recklessly or fast or breaking laws then I wouldn’t need this job and my daughter would be going to private schools when old enough and whatever college on the planet she chose once she gets to that point. No they’re not but laws aren’t supposed to be fun, they’re supposed to be obeyed and not obeying them is bad and eventually they’re gonna stop slapping you on the wrist and saying “bad girl” and they’re gonna do something about it.” he said seriously knowing the phrase “people in glass houses” well though really he did only let himself drive fast for his job not just whenever he wanted no matter how tempting it was sometimes. Watching her move he lifted an eyebrow as she reached into her bra and he couldn’t stop the snort at her words before chuckling. ”Wasn’t going to call you either, was going to reach for my weapon in case you had one tucked there.” he said honestly and shrugged looking at the money she’d pulled out as she talked about having an idea. Waiting to see what she was going on about he shook his head with a smile, ”No stick up anywhere actually. But my shift’s over whenever I go punch out.” he answered curious what she meant by fun. He just nodded to her giving her last name he didn’t’ say anything as he waited for her to explain what she was thinking up. Listening he shook his head at her with an amused smirk, ”Are you seriously propositioning a race to a cop who just gave you a speeding ticket for the prize of the ticket going away or me getting to pick some prize from no choices I’m aware of?” he asked crossing his arms over his chest and waiting for an answer. It sounded tempting he wouldn’t lie about that but it really didn’t seem smart on her part and could possibly get him in trouble for issuing a ticket then making it “disappear”.

[/b], giving him a wink with a chuckle before handing the papers over to the cop and waiting with very little patience. her feet were tapping on the pedal, only once applying too much pressure and grinding the gears making the car purr and appear as though she was about to pull away, ”just kidding..”[/b] she applied sheepishly because she had not actually meant to have her car roar to life while the cop was inspecting her papers.

her phone was being checked, her contact had slipped in her eye and had been adjusted, her eyes wondered around the car and realized that it needed a good external cleaning as well as internal and then her papers were handed back to her. she had to roll her eyes, there was no other reaction that she could find besides taking the ticket and driving off with a string of curses to follow but the eye roll seemed more appropriate and a little more respectful, and besides, she got to talk to the rather attractive male for just a little longer. she had heard this all, not just from the cops but from her racer brother and father, her mother had always had a thing for lecturing her daughter about being a speed demon like the male influence that was in the house but desiree shook it off, letting the comments roll off her shoulders and gave them the same respect that she showed the cop, with an eyeroll. ”besides, usually I don’t get caught. her head tottered back and forth once more as he ranted on, her eyes rolling in some moments and her feet shuffling in others with her arms crossed against her chest the entire time that he spoke, her body language insinuating that she was not at all interest in what he had to say. desiree was an adult, in her eyes and the law, and if she wanted to mess up her record with a few speeding tickets than that was her fault but she could not hide the snort that came to the mention of a track because he was far off her degree of racing. she went for danger, sharp turns on the edges of cliffs, rushing across a sheet of ice and being a moment from death. desiree was quite certain that her life would end in a race, she knew that her decisions were reckless but they were too good, too thrilling to just stop. her racing had gained momentum as it used to be on the boring old track of the nascar circuit, training to follow in her father’s footsteps but one male opened the door to a whole new world of racing and desiree has never looked back. ”gotcha.”[/b] she said to his words, having zoned out in the middle and only catching the last few lines in his tangent. she found that he really enjoyed lecturing and though she had been enjoying the sound of his voice, the words were unwanted and uneeded because no matter how many times that she was told the same thing, desiree had never changed her mind. ”would have to be a pretty small gun. got a little too much going on in there if you catch my drift”[/b], as desiree’s body was the hourglass shaped and she had the curves with the legs that went on for miles. giving a chuckle, she nodded, her smile falling and showing the seriousness that she had to her proposition, ”basically. and the choice on your end is anything.”[/b], which was a daring thing for the girl to say but she figured that the boundaries of the male did not stretch into the far reaches of human trafficking or anything. the officer before her seemed too much of an upstanding citizen to be that kind of guy which amused the bad girl, ”or you scared that a girl will beat you?”[/b], teasing and taunting as it seemed that was the biggest problem when offering a race between a guy and a girl. in this age, desiree would have thought that the gender barrier fell but she proved to be wrong when it came down to the art of racing.
