THE WORLD IS SPINNING WAY TOO FAST the entire human race will fall into space so fill your shoes with cement and kiss the ones you love with reckless abandonment i'm not concerned with pleasing those little pricks and their little scenes see i'd like to believe in those who try to turn the best of what they have before they die - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border: dashed #ffffff 3px; width: 550px; height: 300px; float: left; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 25px; padding-top: 25px;]
phoenix wasn't necessarily a people's person. for all intents and purposes, phoenix was technically a people person. given his job, he sort of had to be. and to a certain extent, he could definitely listen to other people's problems so long as they weren't something laughable. of course, phoenix had a bit of an issue when it came to suppressing the occasional wicked grin or chuckle. the best part about any bartender's job would be, for obvious reasons, the drunk conversations they were bound to have. it was absolutely unavoidable. most of the people that swung by the var were there to get drunk. otherwise, they were there for the basement in the club, but even then most of the traffic was directed towards the bar, since not even phoenix was permitted to go down to the basement. it was only for a select few - only people who were "invited" downstairs. that's why any of the illegal stuff that could possibly go on down there never surfaced, because the people down there shared some kind of sacred oath or something. phoenix didn't see the entire point in it if he were to be honest; if you were going to do something illegal, why do it in a public place like sublime? maybe that was what it was, or maybe it could've been jealousy. if phe couldn't have something, he automatically assumed that it wasn't worth his time, anyways. kind of like saying you don't want something when you can't get it, even if you really want it in your heart of hearts.
phoenix was much like a child in this sense. being in jail for three years, locked in what seemed like a cement cage, did nothing to change him. it was a real shame, too; he had the capability of being a real mastermind, but it was his sometimes irrational decisions and childish behaviors that put him behind everyone else. not in a literal sense. no, not at all. in fact, phoenix could take on a room of men half his size. but that wasn't the point necessarily. he just let his emotions get the best of him, sort of like a child did. he had his own way of throwing temper tantrums. he wouldn't throw himself on the floor and start bawling like a complete idiot, but he might as well be doing just that. the silent treatment was his favorite tactic. giving somebody the cold shoulder was his specialty, and beating them up in the end if they really got on his nerves. of course, that was all normal. normal people did that, right? so maybe phoenix wasn't that childish at all. at least, he couldn't see how he was, if he really was - all he knew was that was what so many women had yelled over their shoulder as they were walking out of his shitty west side apartment, not to mention what his father and mother had told him numerous times when he was sharing one of the few conversations they shared. he wasn't real fond of their parents, and they weren't real fond of him, especially after what he had done to noelle, so they tended to just keep their distance with one another. the same usually went for his kid brother, too, even though once upon a time anthony and phoenix were actually really close. things changed during the three years he was locked away, though. not just with his family, but with everyone else around him. the case wasn't necessarily a public one, despite everything phoenix was charged with, but it still earned him a few glares every once in a while. hell, he was just lucky that he got hired at sublime as a bartender.
phoenix was engaged with a person who reminded him a lot about himself. just fresh out of prison, wanting to start new, blah blah blah blah. okay, well, maybe he wasn't identical to phoenix. but even with that subtle difference, phoenix still couldn't stop comparing himself to the drunken stranger. it was when the man started getting annoying about his constant whining and bitching that phoenix stopped the comparisons. he wasn't anything like that. or at least, that's what he liked to think. but you always think you're better than what other people perceive you to be. that's the way that saying usually goes, anyways. if it was actually applicable to phoenix and his life was still undetermined, but it would be pretty safe to bet that it was.
after the conversation dragged on for another thirty minutes or so, phoenix was about ready to do himself in with the knife used to cut the lemons when he heard the door close and shut. his gaze momentarily left the man who was reciting poetry from a shakespearean play when he saw a brunette that looked like she was on a mission of some sort. when she sat herself down at the bar, he excused himself from the drunken idiot and made his way over to the woman, flashing her a chesire grin. "what can i get for you, cutie?"

[/classy][/classy] | [atrb=valign,top][classy=SeraP1]Serafina wouldn’t complain about her side job ever, it wasn’t really all that different from what she considered to be her main job being in the marines except that kids were kids and had more excuse for being hard to control and hyperactive or crazy than those under her command ever did. Smiling to herself at the thought of both groups she shook her head at herself as she looked over at the group of girls she worked with who were at the baby shower she’d been invited to. She hadn’t expected to be included in this celebration to be honest since she had just recently joined their group working at the daycare, but they’d been nice about asking her so she’d felt the need to go and join them for the night and prove she wasn’t someone who had issues befriending people or living life outside of her job. She liked to have fun and she liked to go do things, this was a show of that mostly to herself not anyone else.
Seeing the brightly wrapped box she knew was her own gift to the mother to be she couldn’t help feeling a little nervous over not being sure the gift was one she wanted or needed but having only had two days to figure something out and buy it. She’d been told not to worry about a gift but she’d have felt bad showing up without one knowing it was a baby shower she was stepping into. The blanket inside the box was soft and warm, the mother-to-be gushed over it and the cute baby-animal print and hand-stitched initials in the corner of the baby’s name which had already been picked out when they learned the gender of their baby according to the stories Sera had been told and the info she’d gathered about it all in the time working at the daycare. She smiled and muttered a quiet “you’re welcome” when thanked and was surprised when after all the gifts were opened she was given a hug by the very pregnant woman. She was glad the blanket was liked and glad her skills with stitching weren’t horrible since that would have ruined the whole thing.
As the party wound down Sera was one of the first to claim an excuse and get out of there not knowing them all well enough to dawdle around and take her time making an exit. Pulling her coat around her shoulders she grabbed her purse from by her feet calling back a “see you tomorrow” when they called out goodbyes to her before making her way out to her car. She wasn’t ready to just go home to her empty place just yet but didn’t know what she was interested in doing so driving around a little she found a club that’s sign caught her interest and set about finding a parking spot before tucking her purse and coat in the trunk making sure to lock her car up before she headed inside so she’d still have her things when she came back out.
Stepping inside she glanced around taking in the area and finding all exits and taking note of who all was inside before she moved away from the door. It was a habit of hers to make sure of her surroundings no matter where she went, she’d even checked when going into the woman’s house for the baby shower and while some might call her paranoid her father was proud that she was aware and it had saved her ass on more than one occasion to be sure of exits and people. Approaching the bar she snagged a seat parking herself on it with a little sigh wanting a drink pretty bad right about now since an afternoon of listening to women gushing about babies after a day spent playing wrangler to a bunch of kids she was tired but not enough to consider sleep which was what had drawn her to coming to the club instead of going home.
Glancing at her phone as the man behind the bar approached the same time as it buzzed she saw a text from one of her men asking about the rumor that they were being sent back early. Hearing the question she looked up at the man considering for a moment before finding a good answer. ”Vodka shot and a beer please.” she said with a little smile willing to show id if he asked for it. She shot off a quick text explaining she hadn’t heard anything about that but they’d all know if she did she let out a soft sigh and pulled out her wallet to pay for the shot and drink whenever they were set in front of her.
