Nate couldn't believe that his brother was finally a father. Seeing Genny, Dallas and his new nieces in the hospital had brought home a lot of things for him. He loved Sarah. She was his little girl and always would be his little girl, but in a way, he felt like he'd been cheated out of welcoming her into the world. He wasn't sure if that was selfish as hell of him or not, but at the heart of it, he felt guilty because he hadn't been there when she had been born. He hadn't gotten to experience that. Dallas was over the moon at the moment. He was so damned happy and Nate was well and truly happy for him. His brother had it all now. He had the wife. He had the two beautiful girls.
Nate knew he was damned lucky as well, and yet, at the same time, he wanted all of that with Cassie. He'd never stop loving his daughter. She was the light of his life and he damned well knew it. But just once... Once, he wanted to be able to experience what Dallas had just been through. Complete with nine months of making sure that his beautiful wife had everything that she could possibly want or need while she was carrying their baby to term.
He was rolling the ideas around in his head as he drove their rental car back to his Mama's ranch where she'd had a guest house on the ranch arranged for him, Cassie and Sarah to stay in. Sarah was in the back seat of the car in her car seat smiling at him through the rear view mirror and he couldn't help the content smile on his lips at the moment. He was a happy man. He couldn't deny that in the least... But still... it felt like something was missing and he damned well knew it. He was quiet for most of the ride back to the ranch... which probably would have been Cassie's first indication that something was on his mind.
Nate grabbed Sarah front the back seat. "She's exhausted. I'm gonna lay her down for a nap." He said to Cassie as he headed into the house with her. He got Sarah all situated. After the flight to Texas and the excitement of the day, his little girl was exhausted. When he'd picked her up from the car seat, she'd barely stirred in her sleep and she slept right through him tucking her into her crib for the time being too.
Nate tucked his hands into the back pockets of his jeans as he headed back into the kitchen a few moments later where Cassie was standing. He was quiet as he stood there a moment, chewing on his lower lip. But he couldn't contain what he wanted to say any longer. "We should have our own." He said to her rather abruptly. "Baby, I mean. We should have our own."

she spoke, referring to both the parents and the daughters that were gracing their lives. twins was a thing that obviously ran in the family and after having gotten sarah buckled down in her seat, cassie leaned against the passenger car door for a moment in thought. would they have twins, when the time came of course. now, cassie was not sure she was ready to be a full time mother in the definition of carrying a child for nine months and then pushing them out into the awaiting arms of a doctor, caring for that child night and day—sarah was already a good piece of that puzzle in the sense that the girl screamed in the middle of the night still and often awoke between the arms of cassie and nate with a contented smile on her face. there was no denying that cassie had fallen into motherhood with ease but that was someone else’s child, and she still felt a rather strong connection to the now sleeping girl in the back seat. reaching over, she placed a hand on nate’s knee, giving it a small rub and a comforting squeeze as silence surrounded them on the obvious tension filled car ride back to his mother’s place. ”you okay pudding?”, using his nickname in the privacy of their own car as her eyes watched the farmland pass before her. she had never seen anything like this southern state and found it to be refreshing, ”g-d it’s all so beautiful and lively. so different from the city, why would you ever make the switch?” she asked with a chuckle but cassie was well aware of the positive attributes that came with a city or a large town life. nodding as she got out of the car when it pulled to a stop infront of the ranch, she watched nate carry the sleeping girl into the house and cassie took a minute longer to get a look at the scenery. they had just arrived that morning and she had not really gotten a good view of where nate had grown up but the down to earth, sweet side that he hid from the world was all making sense in her head and it had started to come together after meeting the angelic woman that brought the two boys into the world. she took the few steps and closed the door behind her btu left the large wooden door open so that she could peer out the screen and see the texan world around her. the smells, the sights, the people, it was all new and cassie was adapting well to it for being such a cityslicker herself, ”hmm..” she mumbled to herself before turning her back to the door and making her way into the kitchen. a glass of water was needed as the hot, dry air was getting to her throat and making it scratchy and a little on the irritable side, she looked up to the sight of her husband walking into the room and gave him a welcoming, bright smile. her brows furrowed through as she swallowed down a large mouthful of water and tilted her head, noticing the change in his demeanor, ”you okay babe?” she asked before taking another sip of water. she had not been expecting the next words to be said and blamed the shock that she felt for the water being spit back out into the air. eyes widened as she coughed, patting her chest in an attempt to get any stuck droplets down her throat before turning her back to him and placing the glass in the sink. unsure of how to feel at the moment, she turned around to face him, reaching out to take his hand, ”sorry! sorry! I’ll clean that up I swear..” she rushed her words out, obviously nervous of how to even approach this topic.[/div]

THIS POST IS THE HARDWORKING AND DELICIOUS MEL WITH HER CHARACTER, NATHAN .
